Bay Star vs. Sea Star on 22 Cruiser: Understanding the diffs

Regardless of the type of steering you might settle on...be sure to fashion yourself an emergency tiller of some sort. Easy to do...a chunk of square tube a few feet long...with a couple of holes to bolt to the steering bracket on the motor...the holes in the bracket are already there. A little...

    Electrical Problems

Sounds like your rectifier went out and this resulted in a no charging condition...thus the declining voltage until the batteries went dead. The rectifiers that Yamaha used for a while were sized too small...and overheat when lot's of juice is called for in the charging circuit. The original...

09/21 Lake Powell September 2013 Gathering

The Powell trip was cut a bit short for us this year. Terry woke up Sunday morning after the potluck with what appeared to be three mosquito bites above her eye…little tiny dots with welts. Her eye lid was swelling. Lyle had some Benadryl which didn’t seem to help. The swelling got worse and...

WHERE CAN I BUY THIS CHEAPER?

I don't think you will find the Coast Guard approval on those highway flares...or an expiration date. Your other 26 flares don't count because they are expired. How will you meet the requirement for signalling devices?

Gas dripping out of engine...right before Powell trip, too.

Yes...the brass plugs are the bowl drains. The hole that the blue line intersects in the second photo is the vent...if the float sticks fuel will flow out of that hole. In a bind you can remove the plug and tickle the float with a piece of wire (gently) to get it unstuck. The two other things...

Gas dripping out of engine...right before Powell trip, too.

The pic doesn't look like gas to me...if it was gas you wouldn't see it. Must be oil and grease and maybe a little gas...I bet it is residue from the cowling that has been there a while and worked it's way out with the up and down on the motor. Whenever you work on the motor...whether changing...

Rob...as others have said...cell coverage is poor at best on Powell. If you can see Navajo Mountain you probably have a signal...if a Verizon customer. Other carriers not so much. You will only see Navajo when out in the main channel...and then only briefly in certain spots. Probably none of the...

Prop/WOT/engine height - would appreciate your thoughts.

I run a 13 1/2 X 15 three blade all the time. It is the sweet spot where I get good performance at all elevations and loadings. I loose about 200 rpm at Powell but it really doesn't hurt because I'm still turning 5400-5600. It's important to let these motors turn up. I think the goal should be...

Would be a good idea to get a reservation...although the season is winding down after Labor Day and there is usually plenty of room.

Heinz & Diane...I will be launching at Wahweap on Friday (Sept 20) morning. Will meet up at the store on the dock just south of the launch ramp around noon to gather any boats that want to tag along with me. Just a note to remind folks with 25's that you will probably want to prop down to...

Question about bunks vs. chine "hook" and movement

The problem with the over the gunwales thing is that it introduces several feet of tie down...rope...strap..whatever...which translates to excessive stretch. That stretch will allow the boat to lift off the trailer...which will let it move around. The key to a good tie down system is to keep...

Question about bunks vs. chine "hook" and movement

Trailer looks well set up to me...wouldn't mess with the bunks. I would add some tie down eyes...probably piggy back them with the light mounts...or the cross member bolts...so that I could use a couple of cam-overs from there to the transom eyes or the aft cleats. You want to hold the boat down...

Question about bunks vs. chine "hook" and movement

I do not have side guides or any other mechanism to hold the boat centered. If the trailer is not backed too far into the water...the bunks do a fine job of centering the boat when loading. This is not the place for an interference fit. Going down the road I do get some shifting within the...

Question on changing rectifier on Yamaha F80

Well...it's been a while...replaced mine on the water in Craig, Alaska...so not a huge job...but that air cowling needs to come off. There are about 8 bolts holding the black plastic cowling to the cast aluminum intakes. Not a big deal...you are not getting into anything complicated. As I...

I will be leaving Wahweap around noon on Sept 27...Friday. Anyone that would like to tag along is welcome. We will meet at the store on the main dock and leave from there. We will head up lake and might overnight somewhere along the way or go all the way to Oak Canyon if we are feeling...

An amazing shot of the work at Castle Rock Cut, Lake Powell...trying to keep it open with the low water levels. The water is now on the rise and should flood this area soon.
