Floatation Foam: Pour vs Mold Advice

A closed cell foam is needed for its resistance to absorbing water and mold, I believe you can buy it in blocks as well that could be drilled and a rope or 1/2" pvc pipe run through them and fastened up under the gunwales. Regards, Rob

    Birthday Party

HMCS Haida Canada's "Fightingest" Ship turns 80 on Aug 26. Unlike a lot of other marine museums some of its equipment is still operational. They will be firing her A guns(pic in my album) to celebrate and some Veterans will be manning the radio. For any Cbrat Vets who are operating radio...

    Water pump

Has the pump seized up? Check hoses and all connections - if it is sucking air anywhere it will not pump water. Blown fuse? Can you hear pump? Make sure it is wired correctly or it could be running backwards- less likely but,,? Rob

Thanks Will - I was just getting used to ducking and dodging to peak around those adds! One question I have wondered for a while - why does it say "Not secure" in the address header? Keep up the good work. Rob

Outboard won’t start I only get a single click

I had a 10hp honda generator once that was working fine when I stopped it then next time it would not turn over. It would stop turning abruptly and you could back it up almost 1 rev then it would stop again. I thought for sure the connecting rod had come off and was jamming it. When a Honda tech...

    Battery Charging parameters

15.6 is in the equalization range and will boil a FLA battery dry. Keep an eye on the acid level - if it goes below the plate level it causes irreversible damage. On the plus side you shouldn't have to worry about sulfation! Regards, Rob

UNABLE TO REMOVE BRASS DRAIN PLUG

Agree with this - spray the plug from inside and outside. Also tapping lightly several times with a hammer helps work the penetrating oil in through the threads.

UNABLE TO REMOVE BRASS DRAIN PLUG

If the flange is good you can try drilling progressively larger until you start hitting the flange threads. Then a tap/thread chaser to clean whats left of the plug threads out of the flange. You can also drill a hole across the square to put a tapered punch through and try turning it that way...

UNABLE TO REMOVE BRASS DRAIN PLUG

Teflon tape or a sealant should be used to lubricate brass on brass pipe threads. Brass on brass pipe threads produce too much friction and will stop turning before the normal sealing action of the tapered pipe threads is allowed. Yes many will say its not required and yes I was taught it was...

Connecting Deployed Anchor Rode to Boat

I secure the bitter end of my rode to the inner side of bow eye inside my anchor locker. I tie off at the desired length to the forward cleat then pull rode down to the bow eye. I do this to increase my scope with less rode deployed. Rob

    Sea Skiff Update?

There are a number of discussions about these on Cbrats. Most who saw them at the boat shows thought they were very light and cheaply built. Some said they were built of roto molded plastic? If so not sure if they would have molds. Think they were 14 footers. Many builders have called their...

White pastes I see on water hoses, sewer hoses, and such?

When removing old hose some techs will slice it length wise down the barb with a razor knife. This can score the peaks of the barb and under pressure I have seen it leak even well clamped. Rob

    Wallas stove replacement options

I had to replace all my B vent propane space heaters with direct vent about 20 years ago because they were no longer acceptable to code. Problem in a house that is sealed up tight - they can lead to negative pressure in the house. This can lead to a low carburizing flame, blown out pilot lights...
