need help with a garmain AIS boot disk

Hello Tom, Well in THAT case...I don't have the Garmin unit but looking at the Support on the Garmin page for that devise, it appears the you may need the disc to input the FCC call sign, vessel type, etc. Basically all the OTHER stuff you set up except the MMSI. dave

need help with a garmain AIS boot disk

Hello Tom My understanding is that you can program the MMSI into the AIS 600 ONE TIME. thereafter it must be sent back to garmin. Click here (https://support.garmin.com/support/sear ... 00&caseId={692be800-0271-11e0-639d-000000000000}&locale=en_US) And look at item #18 in the instructions...

VHF radio connections to the GPS

Hello Geoff On the last 3 vhf radios I've had they alarm (or at least have an alarm function) when the vhf is not receiving gps information properly. It MAY be that your vhf 'updates ' every so often which COULD explain the difference in lat/lon. I would compare the numbers on the vhf to see...

One bolt is leaking. Advice sought.

Hello John, As Bob as said, the chamfer goes on the TOP/OUTSIDE of the fitting. You DO NOT seal the inside...you want to know if there is leaking so the sealant/bedding compound goes topside only. Look at the Compass Marine tutorial here...

    Thinking of Heading Off-Shore (70 miles) in C-Dory 25

Hello Paul, An AP will be a great asset in many "less than ideal conditions" situations as it can steer the boat well (or, at least, better than ME). You may need to control the throttle. In BAD conditions, YOU may be able to steer the boat better than the AP. For the APs that use a...

    Thinking of Heading Off-Shore (70 miles) in C-Dory 25

Hello Gerry, You have received much good advise on your question. Good advise for all of us really. I used to have a Cape Cruiser 23 which I took about 20 miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico fishing. I did it several time WITHOUT an Autopilot. Then, I installed an AP...and that one little...

    Steering sticks/stiff at speed

Hello IE, Please tell us what type/make of steering you have...'cable' or hydraulic? It sounds like a cable system but...I'll wait for more info. You have detailed difficulty with turning LEFT and then more difficulty with returning to CENTRE...is RIGHT turning smooth/easy? With difficulty...

Loose Perko connection and blown fuses

Hello Skip, Your switch as well as battery terminals, etc are all locations which should use a split ring lock washer under the nut OR use a nylock type of nut. Fair winds and solid electrical connections, dave

    Broken Bilge Box

Hello Dennis, You are describing a shower sump drain assembly. A quick search at Defender.com shows they sell TWO different brands of this devise. This is their Whale brand set up As with most things, you can spend more or less depending upon your preferences. I'm not sure about buying...

Looking For Helm Seat w/Folding Armrests

Hello Troy, I second Chuck's suggestion for tractor seats. I bought one from Tractor Supply, for my former boat, a Cape Cruiser 23. It was very comfortable with folding armrests and adjustable recline back rest. The nice thing was I could measure the width (critical dimension for my boat)...

iPad3 discharges over course of the day

Hello Casey, I have noticed the same issue with my iPad. I have it plugged into the Blue Seas Dual USB receptacle. This (https://www.bluesea.com/products/1016/D ... ger_Socket) is the Blue Seas info page. I checked the Blue Seas page for specs and it is rated at 2.1A TOTAL which, I guess...

    RayMarine EV-100 Autopilot Installation

Hello Colby, Good luck. I tried the card-in-the-Garmin method of Raymarine update and that was a big NO-GO. I also bought the Garmin N2K updater and that DIDN'T WORK either. Sent it back. Raymarine has us by the short hairs. That is, you WILL BUY one of their mfd's if you want to update...

    RayMarine EV-100 Autopilot Installation

Hello Colby, I'm glad to hear your EV ap is working. I frequently WILL plot a route and ask the AP to follow it. That works well for me. You will have to dodge obstacles whether on a straight-line course or following a route. Creating a route on the Garmin platform is easy-peasy. I moved...

    RayMarine EV-100 Autopilot Installation

Hello Colby, I follow the N2K layout...except one question...the "inline terminator" under the helm shows a spur going to the ACU. Is the ACU connected to the backbone via 'T' with a terminator? I Can't tell from your pic how exactly you've connected everything. I don't have any 'inline'...

    RayMarine EV-100 Autopilot Installation

Just for kicks, have you tried connecting the 840 to the P 70 R? Rather than connect it to the backbone, try connecting it to the second N2K port on the back of the p70r. David

    RayMarine EV-100 Autopilot Installation

Geez...the more I think about it WHY WOULDN'T the Garmin card reader work? If you used a Devicenet cable from Raymarine (which you already have to connect the Garmin), the reader would connect seamlessly. Card are cards - meaning micro sd cards. Hmmm. Any thoughts? david
