    Re-Bedding Fixtures and an Apology

I have used a number of Bimini tops on boats for over 60 years. I never had to remove the deck fittings (SS). There should be pins or bolts holding the frame to the deck fittings. Those should be unloosed if you need to take the frame off. The Bimini should have zippers on the part you use on...

    aftermarket add on keel

a keel would increase turbulence around the prop/ props Deep keel boats run fast--more semi displacement speeds. The keel would increase issues in a cross current, but minimal resistance in drift from wind forces. ("Drift" is wind, "set" is current which cause leeway.) A daggerboard...

    Remove Boat Lettering: NEW DISCOVERY

The eraser wheels are nothing new--been around a long time. I like them for removing striping and pin strips type of material. Heat, and slowing lifting the old vinyl has worked well for me. I prefer an adhesive remover. Acetone will soften the gel coat. Some of the adhesive removers do...

    06 25 Cruiser…Front opening window stays

I would visit Diamond Sea Glaze retail store; Adventec: https://advantecmarine.com/marine/diamond-sea-glaze/ They were the supplier or an outfit somewhere in WA with similar products.

    Re-Bedding Fixtures and an Apology

I have mostly used West Systems products. I am comfortable with properties of all of the various additives. When I first used epoxies in any large amount I used "shell chemical" 1 part epoxy to 1 party hardener. I bought 10 gallons, (two 5 gallon buckets) for about $100. For 30 gallons of...

    Re-Bedding Fixtures and an Apology

Two reasons for re-bedding, one us to prevent leaks. The second is to prevent core rot. This means if the deck or cabin side/top, has a core, the hole should be into an epoxy plug. Several times when i have re-bedded the forward hatch, I found the cutout was too big. Thus as well as...

    CCI anchor rode

Most of the windlass on C Dorys use 1/2" nylon rode, with HT 1/4" chain. I used Sampson 8 plait. Will the 5/8 work in your Windlass?

    Photos - attachbox

Check for "ad blockers" on your computer. That often is the issue. The photos have to be in Jpeg format Photoshop and some others work also. I just convert mine to jpeg. What camera and what compression protocol?

New Suzuki 90 seems way too loud

That is not "normal"--we have a 140 Suzuki on my 18' Caracal Cat, and it is a quiet engine as they go. I am not sure what could cause that issue. However some resonate frequency is possible. Did you check out the transom? Two 40's and to a single, would have more holes in the transom.

    Prop for new Suzuki 90

What prop do you have now, (metal, pitch, and diameter, and any "model"). What is your boat speed at 5500 RPM? What speed and RPM are you cruising at now? The rated range for WOT is 5300 to 6300 (when the rev limiter kicks in). The Suzuki 90 tends to be a "strong motor"--at or above its...

Repair log - wet transom core

I cannot speak to the various years of C Dory 22's. But the my C 2003 C Dory 25, had about what you described. As I recollect it did go down further. However I was amazed that it did not go all of the way to the sides of the transom. The core in the 25 was OK, but we had some issues as...

Repair log - wet transom core

There is "Sea Cast" pourable material. Nida pour used to be available--not sure if it still is. Coosa, or Penske board (Baltek AIREX PXc foam board today) I like to rebuild with epoxy resin if not in the open--even if the back of the transom is pulled and core replaced from outside, I use...

    Raw Water Washdown

Problem with fresh water, is the limited supply, plus having to run new plumbing. I have often kept the hand pump for fresh water, and then added a very small fresh water pump with a momentary on switch on the 22's. If you have a larger boat, high pressure water system, larger tanks and water...

120V-15a (household) plug behind plastic cap in transom

This would have been installed by a previous owner--not factory. My best guess is that this is an inlet for a battery charger. I have had several small boats which had this setup.

To teach my grandkids! Hoping for a 22’ Cruiser in WA state

Look at this forum, boats for sale. by owner, and all of the other boats for sail Craigs list, Boat.com, Yacht world, Facebook marketplace etc daily. Good boats are sold very quickly.

    Raw Water Washdown

Well built and maintained thru hull fittings are very safe in boats and installed in all of long distance cruising boats. The quick disconnect on the marine hoses is unique, so that none of the "Aeroquip" or garden hose fittings will fit. I have usually changed them to be the garden hose...

Upgrad AGM Battery’s to lithium instead of the solar route

The Victron smart shunt and other products do not need internet--blue tooth should not need internet connection. Any of the small refrigerators use a compressor. The Fuji swing motor uses a little less power than the Danfoss compressors, with the rest use. It was our observation at Lake...

New Owner says hello ... am I doing this right???

Congratulations on the "new" boat. The photos show it is excellent condition. The ferry is "OK"....unless you have to back it all of the way off...as I had to do, towing behind a 35' motor home.... You have some pretty neat (and rough at times) water there. I always have loved Montana De Oro...
