Criminal record may prevent entering Canada!

Very timely submission (you beat me to the punch by a few minutes). It is a two way street though - the US government applies the same draconian measures to Canadians entering the USA. Cheers - Dave

    Naming my boat

I went through the same angst you are experiencing. Some of the things I considered were, in no particular order or importance: something different, how many "Carpe Diem" do you see? I tried to stay away from the cutsey nautique "Romantasea" I think most plays on "C" are...

    Honda BF2

Many thanks for all who replied to my query on the Honda BF2. The comments have given me serious pause for a sober second thought on replacing my '96 Yamaha 2 stroke, 2hp. Cheers - Dave

    Honda BF2

Thinking of replacing my Yamaha 2hp, 2 stroke with a Honda BF2, 2hp, 4 stroke. Primary use is on my tender, an Avon Redstart inflatable. I see the Honda is air-cooled - any noise level issues? Anything good, bad or ugly about this motor? thanks - Dave

    Starboard

Try Industrial Plastics and Paints on Northfield Rd in Nanaimo. I am sure they have it (also offcuts of HDPE). I think HDPE can be used in place of Starboard - depending on application I guess. Note: I have seen OOPS gathering moss in Ganges the odd time I put in there! Cheers - Dave

    Magazines?

I subscribe to Pacific Yachting, I guess it covers "around here". Unfortunately among the gems like the latest "How to navigate the lower Johnstone Strait" and "A Christmas cruise on the Sunshine Coast" are just too many ads. I am on the fence right now about letting my subscription lapse. I...

    How strong are they?

I tow engines down with dowel a la El and Bill (I stole their idea). Was in the Yamaha dealer a month or so ago and overheard part of a conversation from the service guy and I think he recommended down. The reason he gave was that the locking tab is not strong enough to withstand the rigours...

Kleen Heat available in Home Depot in Olympia WA

Wallas fuels appear to ignite the same debate as the one motor/two motor discussions. I think at one point there was even a poll. It seems various users favour either Kleen Heat (unavailable in Canada), diesel or kerosene likely K1, and swear by them. I use K1 kerosene and notice a slight...

    Trim tab anodes

Thank you for the scholarly reply Roger. I think I prefer the zinc to give its life rather than the lower units of my motors. Cheers - Dave

    Trim tab anodes

Just an observation from looking in albums and noted that not too many seem to have anodes (zincs) attached to their trim tabs. The Bennet manual that came with mine specifically recommends installation of zincs on the tab for salt water operation. I have them on mine and they lose about...

    Trouble logging in using firefox

I am a Firefox (sometime Thundbird - mainly Eudora user) and don't have problems. I did find early on that blocking popups sometimes thwarts webmail. Maybe cookie setting could be your problem. Not really helpful other that I have always been able to log on. cheers - Dave

    Factory location

Tentatively stopping by the factory in Seattle next week. I have the addr on 37St NE. Can anyone give me a more exact location in what appears to be a large industrial area, north or south side of 37th? any good landmarks (coordinates) etc. I will be southbound on I-5 from Vancouver (Canada)...

    Boat fenders

The round orange fenders are always called "scotchmen" by commercial boat operators and fishermen in British Columbia. Also used as net floats, crab and prawn trap floats, and marine markers. It seems power boaters often call fenders "bumpers" and "proper" sailors call them "fenders" (or...
