    Perfect Towing Vehicle

Just a quick update to Thataway Bob's post: The Ford 7.3 is available up to the 2002 model year. That's the one I have in an F250 to tow my CD25. Works great. Other brands have good ones too, but research the best model years to choose from if buying used. Now you know about Ford in terms of old...

    Considering a C-Dory

My wife’s bladder, I am convinced, can hold the quantity of a yardarm of beer, and she can hold it longer than I every time. We don’t need a head or porta potti.

    Proper Trim on 22

Adding to Thataway Bob’s comments, the boat's propeller operates most efficiently when the thrust is parallel to the water surface. This suggests that when on plane and cruising in choppy conditions, the bow should be trimmed down with the tabs for comfortable ride and then the engine trimmed...

Saw a CD22 named Ripple on Richardson Bay off Sausalito. We are spending a nice weekend on SF bay, here at Treasure Isle marina:

    Uncomfortable without compass

From what I have seen, most people mount a fixed compass on the dash over the v-berth opening as D.D. Will-C mentioned, which has the associated tradeoffs that location entails. Some mount it various distances left or right of center, but never have I seen a vertical mount compass used on a...

    Towing Mirrors

These have worked for me. Cheap and easy to take on and off. They don't vibrate at speed either, as long as you're going in the forward direction.

    World's Largest tsunami

To supplement Robbi’s comment, since the wave was going from shallow to deeper water the face of wave would have a decreasing slope which would be the opposite of an incoming wave. The survivors’ comments of riding up and over the wave indicate this kind of scenario.

    best mileage

For best towing mileage per gallon, which is the original question, the model year is probably more important than which truck model you choose. I did extensive research across the internet three years ago when I was on the market and the consensus was that there was a significant decline in...

    Barometers

Regardless of its relevance on a boat, I find that a barometer is fun to have and to observe, and the more you use it the more meaningful and useful it becomes over time. I also have an anemometer on my boat, water temp gauge and other weather related items which I suspect many would consider...

    Great Lakes Tsunamis?

Bill – My family has lived on the shore of Lake Michigan north of Chicago since 1958, and one time in about 1965 there was an event that was called a seiche which had no resemblance to the description discussed on the ISGS site. It occurred on a completely normal, sunny day and the lake was...

    Just Bought my First Motorcycle!

Personal safety has been well covered here, but family safety should be mentioned, too. Make certain your estate affairs are in order, and I don’t mean to be morbid, but be aware that any life insurance you have might not pay out in the event of death by motorcycle. Your family should be...

    Camper Canvas-forward leaning main bow?

Here is a photo of the forward leaning main bow on a 22. It certainly demonstrates the ingress/egress problem. Great photo, by the way, of a 22 in action.

    Cold Water

Cold water submergence is an interesting topic and it has a psychological component which can be very important in terms of survival. People have a tendency to panic in cold water and thereby waste precious energy. Take a look at the information available on survival times in cold water (as Bob...

    Installed a Keel Guard

No holes, Confucius say… but you still have holes, just filled in. Back out those screws, do the proper sealing procedure, re-attach the brass guard and overlay the keel guard, it is shaped to accept it. Confucius also say two keel guard better than one.
