    Are you hunkering down?

Tosca, my ancestors were nordic raiders and I'm afraid they were as bad as the plague for the rest of Europe..... We made our last days drive and we are now back in our Monterey slip, glad to be back in one piece, the narrow Mexican roads are not for the faint of heart, back up to our ridge top...
  2. Peeking out our door 7:30 this morning at the Tejon pass rest stop. 70s yesterday morning in Gonzaga bay...what a shock and we are not set up for the cold, mid 30s last night and summer bags to sleep in, our little propane heater is buried in the truck and not going to dig it out in the sleet last night! On to our Monterey slip today then going to hide out on the ranch. It was an intense week getting out of La Paz and through the semi closed US border. And I hate semis, blind corners, 13 hour drives and 9' lanes!

    Sierras Baja adventure 2020

We left our last Mexican camp at Gonzaga bay this morning early. We had about a 4 hour drive to the border, the Mexicans at the diesel pumps all had masks and gloves on and offered hand sanitizer to me, at the border it was deserted, none of the agents had protective gear on, very strange! We...

    Bill and Ellen Fiero

One of the biggest reasons for us buying a C-dory was the adventures of Halcyon. I wish them both the best of health, I owe them so much.
  5. Disk brake trouble fix. The locater studs somehow backed out leaving the caliper unmoored. I checked the rest and found another stud half backed out. I tied it to the frame with some 1/8 ss welding wire, with 3 brakes I am glad I have a 1 ton truck, heavy with really strong brakes!!

  6. Camped out at Gonzaga bay, 6 AM start to a 13 hour driving day that crossed the border and delt with LA freeway traffic in the rain. Ended up camped at a reststop at the top of Tejon pass on interstate 5. 40? and raining. All the hotels and restaurants are closed. I'm just glad I could get diesel, have some hot ramen noodles and have a warm dry bed on Sierra.

    Are you hunkering down?

Wow, I have been off the grid for a few days.....reading this thred seems....I don't know, not relevant to the fact that we are in the early stages of a world wide pandemic, a lot of people are going to die of a disease that didn't even exist last year, that is a fact. The disruption to our...

    Are you hunkering down?

Luckily my M1A is all in one piece and I stocked up on mail order ammo for my hunting rifles before the new California mail order restrictions. It is still months to hunting season though, that's a lot of rice and pasta till then! (our county is on total lockdown except for essentials) I just...

Boat form please not your political agenda

Can we talk about our situations without bringing in the politicians that may or may not have gotten us here or the ones that may or may not get us out of this mess. Many of our lives may be changed forever, we are coming back a month early as Dana is a nurse and is worried about having a job...

    Sierras Baja adventure 2020

We had an interesting cruise today, 85 miles between Isla San Francisco and Puerto Escondido we arrived here at 11:30. We have a bad wind forecast the next few days so we didn't stop at the Agua Verde anchorage. We had the bottom cleaned just before we left so our mpg went up to around 2 at 23...

    Are you hunkering down?

Baja's cases are ramping up here, a lot of California including our county is under lockdown, essential business only, because of the 2 week case lag with Italy and Spain we just want to get back to our isolated farm in Big Sur where they have just locked the gate on our dirt road. I just hope...

    Sierras Baja adventure 2020

Thanks all, we have to be back by early May anyway, me for ranch work I have put off and Dana's nurse job. We've decided to head back, not in panic mode but just less lazing about down here. With winds generally from the north here it will still take awhile to get back up to Puerto Escondido and...

Thanks for your thoughts. There is something disconcerting about being far from home as this becomes more serious.

    Sierras Baja adventure 2020

Well our time in La Paz and the southern islands is up. We are stocking up for our trip back up to Puerto Escondido and Loreto on Monday. Our trip may not be as long as we would like, La Paz has it's first known case of Corona virus. Dana is worried as a nurse that with exponential increases...
  20. Some friends from the states visited today and wanted to see the islands and rented a panga for the day. We had a great time being passengers. The Capitan was great the panga was about 28\' feet and had a 225 Honda that cruised us along with a very soft ride at 28 mph. I asked him what he thought of Suzuki\'s and he thought that the Suzuki\'s were the number one best outboard down here then Honda then Yamaha, so different than in the US, but the pangeros run their boats hard for lots of hours so they should know what works best here. When he saw Sierra he called it a super panga!
