    New engine maintenance

One thing I don't love about Honda is finding parts - even basic maintenance parts - is a PITA. Anyone have any easy method of getting parts?

    New engine maintenance

The manual also does NOT specify using "Marine" engine oil. Is there any real advantage to doing so?

    New engine maintenance

Thank you both for your helpful responses. Tomorrow I'll start in on Maintenance! BTW, when they say things like "100hrs OR 1 year".. say you barely used it in that year. What's the concern? Like with engine oil, is it that the oil could be getting water in it due to condensation? Or some...

    New engine maintenance

I started getting the maintenance alarm awhile ago on my 2021 Honda BF100. The motor was put on about a year before I bought the boat, so I don't know the maintenance history. It now has 174 hours and I've owned it for a few years. I think the alarm started going off at 150hrs but I've ignored...

I'm looking for one too. For a 1996 16' Cruiser. Any ideas where to find one to match, or a new pair that will work?

    C-Dory Sightings

Driving from Seattle to Utah, I saw two C-dory's on the freeway. Got to talk to the owner of a 22'Cruiser in a rest area, headed to Arizona. The other one was headed the other way. You know you love a type of boat when just seeing one gives you a lift! And makes you want to talk to the folks!

    Charging Dual Batteries

I was just thinking... If I put my charger on one of the batteries, and then set the Perko switch to "all" (both batteries).. will I be charging both at the same time!? If so, is it ok to do this?

ISO: Dry Garage space / trade / free

Hi, My shop is full.. So I'm looking for free (or very cheap) use of a dry garage space to do some work on a 16' Angler this fall/winter and would love to trade my expertise with fix-ups and repairs with someone who wants to learn. Preferably heater or at least with power (I'd pay the utils)...

    Trolling motor/kicker throttle control

I discovered that I’m not using my trolling motor (w/Steering rod ) because I don’t like the throttle control being at the transom while everything else is in the cabin. And I usually go out solo .. But I wish I was using the trolley motor more often.. Does anyone recommend a throttle control...

    Boat Covers

I've had my boat parked in Utah for a year, and the blue trim on the edge of the cabin roof that was facing the sun got very faded. What kind of cover should I get if my primary concern is UV protection? (rain & breathability are not a big deal). BTW - The cockpit was covered with a small tarp...

motor flush port screw won't open

Honda BF40 lower unit has a flush port screw near the oil screw. But I can't get it to open. I tried a very large screwdriver, both flathead and #3 Phillips. The flat head slips due to wear and tear on the screw slot. The phillips stays in place, but still won't open the screw. Even a #3...

New (used) lower unit, a new noise, an other variables

Apparently prop sing is when the prop's rpm matches it's own natural frequency of resonance of the blades. So to avoid this, a props blades will be very slightly different from each other (but still balanced overall). I'm not sure how the edge beveling relates to this, but that what prop shops...

New (used) lower unit, a new noise, an other variables

Here something Google led me to: "Just jump in and use a piece of emory cloth to slightly ease the sharp ( may be squared) edges on each blade. Very quick, easy & effective Or wait and the suspended particles in the water column will gradually do the same thing ..... but it might take a...

    Prop Size for Yellowstone Lake

I just went through this going from sea level to Lake Powell, around 3800'. A local shop gave me a recommendation. It wasn't just the pitch that changed, also the diameter. I can't remember the specs right now, but I recommend calling an outboard repair shop somewhere near the Yellowstone area...

New (used) lower unit, a new noise, an other variables

Thanks for the suggestion. I did check that. The thrust washer behind the prop can only go on one way. I tried reversing it and things simply don’t fit that way. And when I spin the prop by hand, it was not rubbing on the housing. Anything else I could check?

New (used) lower unit, a new noise, an other variables

Yes, thanks. I’m still a little worried about this lower unit though. Here’s Why: It came from Florida = sea level. So it’s probably used to pushing a “sea level prop” (pitch and diameter). And the noise goes away when I put my sea level prop on there. But now I’m at a significantly higher...
