    Is bigger better? Help!

I don't know all,,,, maybe better living through chemistry? The reason I say this is because I have had the pleasant opportunity to "thump" a lot of hulls in the search for the PERFECT boat. Only one problem... I am VERY married and my wants, whishes, and dreams of the perfect boat only make it...

    Power to a pier

Charlie... akbpilot did a magnificent job spelling out what you should have. There is one thing that I have noticed in Maryland and that is 4 conductor line inputs; two 110V. lines, a neutral, and an isolated ground. The reason I say this is because when I built my garage/shop I had the power...

    shifting for outboards

Joe I had no idea carbide was ever sold in hardware stores... we kids lived too far back in our own family 'holler' to get to a hardware store anyway. The only store we kids had any access to was a little one man grocery store... it wasn't even big enough to be a convenience store by today's...

    shifting for outboards

Joe... you are close but... it wasn't calcium carbide. This is way before RCRA and mine strip operators routinely threw this stuff in drums to be hauled to a and landfill. My stuff came from a open air strip mine operation and used as an absorbant, besides it would have been hard for me and my...

    shifting for outboards

Les' shifting slow (grinding) :thdown versus shifting fast (clunk) :thup reminded me of the analysis my brothers and I did when :idea I came up with a way to enjoy the 4 of July in the hills of West Virginia with "reusable" :D home made fireworks. Yep they were reusable... up to 10 BIG...

    Towed in a Bayliner

Ya did good! I have been on both ends of that arrangement and speaking from experience.... I will never leave a boater in distress on the water. Crap happens and even if it is a function of momentary stupidity...

    It shouldn't happen to a dog ...

Mike, I agree 110% with Bill... your dealer, which has a good reputation in the Baltimore area of the bay, can help you get the right people in to document and assist you in supporting your claim. Best of luck... Butch PS... All I can say is document the crap out of everthing till the boat is...

   Mike... I am so glad there is another person in the whole world that I can relate to! But... your self imposed problematic predicament pretty much takes the cake. Be glad your wife did not have a camera... she'd most likely be $10,000.00 richer by now... Mike, ole buddy...

    It's not just a boat. . .

Dee... thanks so much for the heartfelt message regarding the loss of your cousin. You know Ken was correct when he indicated these "stupid" little boats are more than just boats, however, I want to add one more thing to that statement. It's the people that own and operate those little boats...

CD-25 on a trailer - an oversized load at 102" wide?

I know a guy in Maryland that uses a 2004 Freightliner long nose with a deluxe sleeper for a personal vehicle. Ken, all he had to do was put in nice lettering on the cab door, "Non-commercial" and "Not For Hire". When Sach (his nickname) blows past the weigh stations along 95 on his way to work...

CD-25 on a trailer - an oversized load at 102" wide?

The FMCSR (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations in Title 49, set the legal limit at 102 inches or 8.5 feet of width. Anything more than that would require special permits for wide loads and a restriction on some routes. Anything greater than 102" is considered to be a risk in general...

CD-25 on a trailer - an oversized load at 102" wide?

Bill, most tractor and box trailers are a standard 102" wide and a max of 13' high. If you look closer you'll see the semitrailers are not placarded "wide load" at 102". I live in Cecil County, MD and put up and down the highways with a 102" trailer for my backhoe and I have not had any issues...

    "Live" Buoy data maps

Sometimes "iffy" is just fun and the information presented as such is food for thought. I'll bet if we looked into it someone out there in cyberland has accumulated all the availabe data from the tide/atmospheric stations into a nifty database that could be used for planning long range seasonal...

The reason I vote is simply because... if I don't vote I have NO right to complain. I think we have come a long way since the sixtes where I remember as a young teen sitting in the 1951 Ford service truck, on the way to a job I might add, and seeing the following in the west coast...

    Navigating after sunset

I boat around the head of the Chesapeake Bay at night. Same rules apply... watch out! The channels are narrow, commercial and pleasure traffic is abundant and worst of all there are the inebriated idiots to deal with. All this and I still like the still of the night... and the waters are calm...

    Not Your Average Motor Questions

Like Mr. Einstein said,,,, it's all relative (a little nerd humor). Mechanical movement of a boat is defined by the "work" performed by the method of locomotion or simply put, Work=Force x Distance. Now with boats that is not quite as straight forward... you have to factor in the % efficiency of...
