    Air Conditioning for the TomCat

Mike, why don't you go run the boat for while and see if you even need the darn thing. On the East coast facilities are close and you probably won't be anchored out for days on end. If you are on your way to Alaska might be a different story. On the the loop most people with small boats...

Boat Transport needed East to West

We have been using U ship with good results to keep our trailer with the boat as we do the geat loop. When you are shipping the boat and trailer you might try to find someone who will put it all up on their trailer - that is how we shipped Chack Chack cross country from Oregon to New York -...

    Manufacturer for TomCat Radar Arch

We used Bolton Stainless Inc. to make the arch for our CD 25. They have pictures of our boat on their website www.boltonstainless.com At that time they had a great price and built a nice arch for us. I believe the coach roof for the CD 25 and tom cat are the same. Eric

    Prop recommendation for TC255 w/Suzuki 175X2

You might run it by Ken at propgods.com, he runs a forum and the advice he gave us for propping our CD 25 with its Suzuki 200 was spot on. By the way (ok I know its blasphemy) Eds Marine superstore has good pricing on Suzuki SS props with free shipping to the lower 48 states. Just be sure...

    Optima blue top

Warren, Odyssey batteries have a great reputation and should be available from your local battery shop, they also manufacture Sears platinum batteries that are less expensive and if you watch sears website you can often get them at a 10-15 % discount - we are going to switch to Sears platinum...

    Standard Horizon CPF 300i

Hi Matt, yes we have a KVH Azimuth 1000 compass, have tried two different multiplexers and lots of time with Scot Iverson at SH. I think the radar overlay on the CPV 350 is theoretical. The CP 300i has four nmea inputs and shouldn't be a problem for the radar overlay. Eric

    Standard Horizon CPF 300i

Matt we use a SH CPV 350 chartplotter on Chack Chack. I like the C-Map charts, the display is resonable, and we have the fishfinder and a Si-Tex MDS 9 radome. My only complaint is I can't get the radar overlay to work but otherwise has been a great unit. We also run a laptop with Tiki...

    130 Honda on a CD25 - adequate?

As Dave said we have a Suzuki 200 on Chack Chack, we just finished a trip from Apalachicola down the Florida coast, through Lake Okeechobee and then up to Jekyl Island, Georgia. That included a 150 mile crossing across the Gulf of Mexico and a 50 mile offshore run up to St. Augustine. We were...

    Using US Army River Charts

Boris, the USACE IENC charts are all you can get, as stated above just stay in the channel. We used Navionics on our PC with Tiki Navigator and CMAP on our chartplotter and they really are just renditions of the IENC charts. There are few services on the river below the Grafton area, no way...

    Canvas Work

Dave, it will be hard to make it bug proof. Be sure to ask whoever makes the cover to make the skirts wider wherever the camperback is going to join the boat and in the corners especially where the back, side and top join. Have them put velcro on so you can try to make a seal. Eric

Our summer Erie Canal cruising plans

We started out our Great Loop trip from Albany. We launched at Coeymans Marina which is just South of Albany on the Hudson, its probably a $30 or$40 dollar cab ride to the Amtrack station. It might be more secure leaving your truck and trailer there but the guys who live in the area can give...

    Need Opinions

For whatever its worth we use the following and have been mostly happy Standard Horizon CPV 350 - integrates VHF and chart plotter in one unit, its tidy and works well with the space available at the helm. They are advertised in the mid $700 dollar range these days. Uses CMAP NT MAX Si-Tex mds...
