    tomcat as a first boat???

Yup...done that, but for an extra $1-$2 a gallon at the marina I'll sing the blues and deal with it. At Big Pine Key I paid $258 to fill up for he run to Naples. I believe that was 1/2 full. "Welcome to the next level". Thread handed back to OP. Buy a boat and don't look back. No...

    tomcat as a first boat???

I went out on the maiden voyage in the cat yesterday and a couple things came to mind as I was cruising around testing things out. They may be of use to you - maybe. 1) a cat rides totally different than a monohull; the first time I took her out it was blowing like mad. Yesterday was a easy...

    tomcat as a first boat???

Well...some thoughts from someone who went through this effort over the last 2-3 years. I have a 17' flats boat and now a 27' Glacier Bay 2670. Actually I own a whole mess of other smaller boats too - 3 kayaks and 1 canoe. I knew I was in a market for a boat that would do a cruise but fish...

    tomcat as a first boat???

I just went through a similar thought process...over here on the East coast we have the option of storing boats on a trailer. Not sure if it works for you, but that a) cost the cost storage by about 1/3, b) decreases the need for a bigger truck. Basically all it has to do is pull it 100' to...

Tofino Boat Sinking - Two Dead April 30, 2017

Given my recent trip that's spooky stuff. What was the make/model of the cat? I might have missed it in the article. I've read a coupe articles about cats going down. Most involved poor maintenance - bilges did not work. For my trip I brought along a 6' hose and a manual bilge - just in case.

    Temporary storage in Keys...

Well...sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. I managed to do a planes, trains, and automobiles with my neighbor and moved the boat myself. Actually it was one way car rentals, uber, and airbnb. We knew it was going to be a rough go in the Atlantic, but once we made it under the seven mile...

    Temporary storage in Keys...

Meant to add this...we sea trialed her in 20-25 in the Atlantic and all I can say is what a ride. So much smoother than I expected. She's a much heavier boat than my 17' skiff. We got her up to 40 mph - calibrated on phone and chart plotter. Trimmed up I suspect she would hit 43 or so...

    Temporary storage in Keys...

Thanks everyone...I'll give the folks a call. If things don't work we'll make the run - not exactly sure when. I think we'll have 1-2 hours of open water but once we get near Flamingo if the wind continue from the East it'll get better.

    Temporary storage in Keys...

I've been hanging about here for several years and have come very close to buying a Tomcat. After about 18 months, several near purchases, I ended up with a Glacier Bay 2670. I seatrialed her in 20-25 knot winds and all I could say was wow - the beat down I was expecting never came. I'm...

    TomCat

FWIW...I was all but prepared to buy a Tomcat when my employment situation got dicey, and I ended up having to back out of the deal. That said, I've spent well over a year looking at Tomcats, Glacier Bay's, and WorldCats. As it turns out the Tomcat wasn't the boat for the wife for a variety...

    I need slippery bunks

I saw someone at a ramp had redneck engineered some starboard strips. Effective, but a bit sloppy. Additional full length strips (which seems a bit over the top) can be found here. http://www.surfixinc.com/surfix_trailer_bunkslides.html Most of the strips I've seen ran only about half way down.

    SOLD - 2006 255 Tomcat for Sale

All, I met with Rick on 7/3 and sea trialled his boat. The boat shows strong and it's clear that Rick maintained the boat. Had my employment situation remained firm (we recently merged) I would have bought the boat. You can search this website and see that I've been in the market for a CDory...

    Yamaha 90 stalling - 89 vs 87 Octane

Ran her reasonably hard yesterday. Good 2-3 hour work out on the river, out to the bay, and back - mostly around the 4000 rpm area; couple times ran her at 5000 rpms. Slowed down in a couple few ilde/no wake zones. No issues... Shut her down a couple times and fired her back up. No...

    Yamaha 90 stalling - 89 vs 87 Octane

Will do - is there a recommended one? I have the Sta-bil version, but I'm not so sure it's a ring cleaner - more of a fuel stabilizer. Right now I don't use it much because I'm running fuel through her pretty darn fast - 10 gal a trip/once a week. On the down side - on Sat looks like we'll be...

    Yamaha 90 stalling - 89 vs 87 Octane

Well...ran her reasonably hard yesterday anywhere between 3000 and 5000 rpms. Couple short stops and one long one (two beers worth at the local watering hole). She ran like a champ; no stalls no hesitation...I'm still thinking about those carbs and getting them redone, but I'm not terribly...

    Yamaha 90 stalling - 89 vs 87 Octane

More sound advice; especially on the existing Yamaha...hope to get her out prior to this weekend in a local river prior to this weekend. Interesting you mention the oil - I saw a pronounced kink in the line; not enough to block oil (I'm burning it on every trip), but it was an observation of...
