Yamaha 8hp kicker won't turn over

So the day before yesterday I ran my little kicker - making sure to let it completely warm up burn some fuel as it's been about two months since it was last ran.
Yesterday I go to run it and it doesn't turn over. Not even a click. So I read the owners manual that states I should check the starter fuse but doesn't give any pictures or diagrams as to where this might be. I look through the outboard, find what looks like a fuse connected to the starter and it looks fine. Interesting enough while I was checking for fuses I disconnected the tilt plug and reconnected it and it went dead. I went back to the plug and used some dielectric grease and all is well there. I double checked the neutral position and lanyard more than once.
Any thoughts brats? Ideas as to what it might be? The main fired off no issues, double checked battery too.

Make sure it is in neutral. If so, take the cover off the cam belt and see if it turns by hand. Also try holding the start button while wiggling the shift lever. Could be a neutral safety switch.

Good fuel, plenty of battery, was running great the other day, so probably the neutral switch -

went to the boat today started to really look at the shaft that switches from FWD to Reverse and holly cow there is a small rod that connects the shaft to the neutral switch and it was broken. Probably about an $8 part now I just need to find a replacement.
