OK...it's official. I can finally take the wraps off of the latest addition to the C-Brat stable.
The Da Nags and The C-Lous are proud to introduce...Pee Wee! As of this afternoon, we're the lucky new owners of a 1990 16 Angler.
Jon and I have chatted informally about getting a smaller boat for launching out of Freshwater Bay - the ramp is right down the street from us, but it's too shallow/small to launch a 22. We came to the conclusion a 16 Angler would be perfect, but it was something we thought we'd look into in a few years once Dana and I move up there.
That is...until I stumbled upon a pretty sweet deal about 10 days ago. While surfing craigslist, I stumbled across a 16 Angler in Friday Harbor. It sounded like a great deal, but since we weren't really ready to buy yet, I didn't think too seriously about it. A couple days later I mentioned it to Jon...well, one thing led to another, and we convinced each other it was worth looking into.
Unfortunately, we had waited too long. By the time we got hold of the seller, his phone had been ringing off the hook, and he had promised first crack at it to somebody else. I did everything short of beg the guy for it...offered him more than he was asking, offered to wire the money immediately, etc. Best I could get out of him was a promise to call us back if the first deal fell through. When I heard that, I figured we had lost it.
Then, last Sunday, the phone rang. The owner lives in Bellingham, and had made the trip out to Friday Harbor to meet the buyer. The buyer called, and backed out of the deal...we were offered next shot at it. Monday morning, I wired the guy a deposit to hold it.
Jon and Cynthia went out there this morning to inspect and finalize the deal. Everything checked out...the boat is as good or better than the owner described it, and they are on the way back home with the boat as I type.
It was a very, very fortunate find. It has virtually new Yamaha's - a 40HP main, and 5HP kicker. Both engines have less than 50 hours. It has a drop canvas that's almost new. The exterior is sound, but will take some elbow grease to clean up a bit. The interior is in great shape. It has very little "jewelry"...the hull is as untouched as one could probably find for a boat this old. No rod holders, downriggers, transducers, through hulls...we get to rig it like we want, with nothing there to get in the way or repair.
It came with a roller trailer which Jon says is pretty beat up, but as long as he and Cynthia make it back home OK, that's good enough for us. It just needs to carry the boat 1/2 mile down the road to the ramp on a regular basis...if something fails on the trailer, we'll just walk back home.
We're a little giddy right now...pics to be posted in the next couple days.
