I need to replace the windshield wiper motor on my cd-25. I believe the model is AFI 80
36181
I wonder if any c-brat knows a good place to buy it?
Thanks

Try West Marine Express store in Friday Harbor (360) 378-1086. Look on page 642 and 643 in the new 2010 catalog and see if any of the parts will work for you.

I have a 2006 Cape Cruiser with elec wipers.I still can't get my windshield wiper arms (blades) off to get to the motor itself to see what model it actually It looks like a AFI 1000-1500? not sure which I had a mechanic told me to cut the arms off and then replace the whole unit He said they are to far gone? I will continue to try to pry them off with PB blaster any thoughts thanks JIm

Jim............I can't get my arms off of the knurled knob either.
If you find a way let us all know.

How can you tell what AFI motor is on your boat w/o taking it off???

Maybe it is just Fla. boats that have that problem. My boat came from Fla.

The real crazy thing is if I put in a bigger fuse and put on the wipers the port side wants to work there's just to much corrosion inside the gears but if I cut them off they are gone

they suggested using a torch I did not want to do that next to the fiberglass maybe a heat gun ? When it cools down here in Naples ,fl I might try more PB blaster with heat gun until then it's rain -x for me

Are you trying to remove the entire wiper arm with the blade from the motor shaft?
If soaking does not work, try a small pry bar, wood of block and hair dryer. A heat gun might work but be careful that is not too hot. I would heat it until the wiper arm to hot maybe 10 min or longer I dont if it is made from AL or SS but a good heat soak at this low temp takes time to heat thoroughly You might need to buildup the wood thickness for better leverage and use the pry bar carefully and in a pattern a clock pattern: 12 then 6, 3 then 9, 1 then 7, 11 then 5. Go slow and easy on pressure. No need to be Charles Atlas, let the pry bar do the work.

If it was me and motor was working, I would use pneumatic cut off wheel and die grinder, good eye protection not just safety glasses and score 3 or 4 lines at the pivot connection then open the cuts with a screw driver and needle nose pliers then replace the entire wiper arm assembly and coat both motor shaft and arm connector with some waterproof marine grease or other type of metal protection to prevent galling

Brent do you mean using a dremel or similar wheel and cut the pivot arm that holds the blade to the wiper shaft . That sounds like a great idea I think I will wait until it cools down to 90 degrees to work on her
Maybe I just need new wiper arms if not then take motors out and soak in penetrating oil if not then go to plan b buy new

I hardley ever used the wipers with rain -x it just wasent an issue in fact I liked the manual one s on the cd-22 before the cc-23

wiper unit has 3 main parts.
1. Motor
2. arm
3. blade

Where the arm attaches to motor shaft, cut slots but not into the shaft. Again, wear eye protection. I have not used a Dremel tool and looks flimsy to me. It might work if rated for metal and the spinning wheels can fracture including pneumatic wheels. You will lose the arm and can be expensive to replace but will be removed quickly

I thought there was a special tool to remove the windshield wiper arm from the spindle ... if that's what you are talking about. It slips behind the base of the arm and assists with prying it off ... I had one years ago. I'll look deep in the toolbox to see if I can find it. Check with your local auto parts store or flag down a Snap On or Mac Tool salesperson. They will know what I'm talking about.

For the original post, yes, you can use a puller. There are various types but might mushroom the arm end. For jennykatz, I thought the arm was bad and frozen to the shaft end. If heat, pry bar, puller doesnt work then cut it off is my approach and would add some blue wateproof marine grease in case it needs repair again

Here's the special tool.
