Will Raymarine Autopilot talk to a Garmin?

I have a full Ray Marine C80 set up with auto pilot and radar. My question is, if I want to put in a Garmin chart plotter will my Ray Marine auto pilot work with it? I’m assuming it’s in NMEA 2000 and will be compatible?

What pilot do you have? I suspect it may talk to the Garmin with NMEA 0183, but there is enough difference between the Sea Talk of an older pilot and current Garmin it may not. However you can keep the C 80 for just the pilot.

I have the RayMarine Axiom 9 (touch screen only) and 7 (hybrid touch and dial/button) MFD, which work perfectly with my older RayMarine Pilot (probably 20012 vintage). They are good units, but maybe not as intuitive as the Garmin. However they do run Navionics charts which I prefer.

See: Here and Here,. You may be able to do the connection with a converter:

Will a Ford talk to a Chevy? For a while I had a cheap Raymarine autopilot and two Garmin Chartplotters. I used the Seatalk backbone and had an adaptor to add the Garmin Chartplotters in the loop. For some reason, the raymarine always wanted to work with the GPSMAP 541 over the GPSMAP 840. I had to leave the route off of the 541 if I wanted the 840 to be in control. The raymarine would only follow routes. It would not follow tracks or autorouting. And even with a route on the chartplotter, at each and every turn the Raymarine a/p would start warning me to hit the connect button again, otherwise it went into heading hold. In other words, a PITA to use for route following with the Garmin! Colby
