Why we post?

Harvey...please don't stop posting such topics. They are more than welcome here.

I'd hoped to avoid posting in this thread, and just move on...but there now seem to be many folks repeating a mantra, that's simply not true.

I've no desire to be part of a "boating topics only" community - how boring is that. Somehow, my plea to keep discussions friendly and away from obvious hot-button topics, seems to have been construed to mean this by many.

We've always discussed non-boating related material here. I'm perhaps more "guilty" than anyone else...of my most recent posts, I'm guessing the majority don't mention a thing about C-Dory or boating. I've babbled on about retirement dreams, house building, and of course - dogs. Which truth be told, I find far more interesting than some inanimate fiberglass floating object that many of us have in common.

In a way, it's kind of ironic. It's so predictable, that a topic on global warming, terrorism, oil companies, environmentalism, or any of a number of other issues has a good chance of degrading into mudslinging and flared tempers. But it's equally predictable, that every time I try to reign things back in, people seem to get completely gun shy and paranoid about what is acceptable around here. Which is worse than the "problem" I was trying to address.

So, in an attempt to set the record straight, here's a list of what I, the co-emperor of the C-Brats, dub acceptable and unacceptable. Disclaimer: I may change my mind at any time, and TyBoo may have his own list.

Acceptable: Stuff that's not boring, and anything about Brock.

Unacceptable: Arbitrary, depending on my mood.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

Who is Brock?
Brock AKA Catman is one of the nicest guys you might have the opportunity to meet. He owns a meticulously kept older CD 16 and a cat (well actually the cat probably owns him).

What is Brock?
A carbon based life form.
A scapegoat / butt for occasional jokes.
Others want to add in here?

Bill, I like your logic. Thanks for the invitation to come and play in your sandbox. I will try and be nice. All I know about Brock is he is a nice guy with a neat boat.

- An incredibly talented wordsmith. Here's a link to his profile, which links to his posts.

- The most lovable and kind tree-hugger you'll ever meet.

- The guy who introduced me to the C-Brats (psssst....hey buddy...check out this other place. No Poob!)

Brock and I are near polar opposites in the political arena. Yet, I've had more enjoyable conversations with the guy...he's just a great dude, and somebody I'm quite pleased to have as a friend.

I'd suggest he run for President, but there are far too many skeletons in his closet, and the chances of another intern incident are simply too great.

So what is the history here? Why doesn't he post?

Brock has a whistle. His cat Bambina has a bell. One would do well to listen for them.

OK, I guess this is some kind of inside joke among the old-timers, which is fine. I'll not pursue the topic.

No, no! Keep persuing!

Brock, as modest as he is, is drawn to his fans like a moth to the flame. Or a fish to a worm. Or a fly to poop. Come on folks, help me out here...I'm cliché-challenged this evening.

He'll post...I just know it.

Of course...I did sit up all night as a kid once, waiting on Santa. Let's hope this turns out better than that experience.

Hey, geez, I know Brock, and he puts his pants on one leg at a time - sheesh, you'll give him a big head! However I confess that Bambina is the C-Dory that I admire the most of all C-Dorys - and I had the pleasure of cruising Desolation Sound with Bambina (along with Cavu, True Story, Bess-C and a few others off and on). Here is one of my favorite shots, in Pryce Channel, September 2005:

Yup...look to the upper left corner of every page here, to see how Bambina has inspired some of us... :cat

Here's a look at the man... the legend... when we crossed paths at the lock on the way out of Lake Union.

BrockE.jpg

Bambina was rafted up to Wild Blue, we were rafted to a big yacht. One of the best lines came from a guy on the yacht: looking at Brock's 16 (blue with a camperback) tied to Wild Blue (blue with a camperback), he said, "It looks like Dr. Evil and Mini-Me."

We met Brock at the Bellingham gathering, visited for a while, he spent some time getting to know Molly. When we saw him at the lock (6 weeks later), he had no idea who we were until he saw Molly... "Oh, you're Molly's parents."

Nice to know where you stand.

----------
Bill... like ants to a picnic... like snowbirds to a cheap buffet... like women to a shoe sale... like spring breakers to a keg on the beach...

Brock is one of my favorite C-Brats. He doesn't post often, but he pops in every once in a while. I think he was at the SBSCBGT at the Hawthorne.

And as to the original question "Why we post?", in my case probably 'cause it's too early in the day to start drinkin' :cocktail :beer

And I know someone will chime in to tell me it's 5 O'clock somewhere!!

In an earlier post, someone mentioned they would buy anyone a drink if they were offended. I wonder if I might be able to get that drink even if I'm not offended?

Ha ha! Not a booser but I have to admit a Guinness sounds pretty good right now....
