Why did I not think of this earlier?

I have acquired small collection of leather belts over the years with each having a particular purpose. Well, with time they have gotten scratched and marked.

All my leather 'stuff' has 'NEATSFOOT OIL' soaked into it to keep them soft and water resistant, no rot. I have used this oil on my ball gloves and hockey equipment and never had experienced any rot or drying out of the leathers. I did use 'saddle soap to clean the leather when needed but always back to the oil.

I don't know why I did not apply any shoe polish before, but the old belts now have been brought back to life with a little application and some rubbing. I guess I won't need to buy some for awhile till I outgrow the ones I have.

Good idea!

Funny enough, when I first read "leather belts", I thought of the old leather drive belts on machinery from about 100 or more years ago!

Anybody else ever see any of those things operate before?

Maybe someone even has an antique machine with one running??? Ha!

Keep em' shining! :smiled

We do own an old Singer treadle sewing machine with the leather drive belt. It still works and it was my wife's grandmothers. It is fun to play with now and again.

Art,

Do yourself a big favor     DON'T grow out of those belts

Joe,

When I was a kid working on a dairy farm, when the power would go out, we would use one of those big leather belts to drive the vacuum pump for the milking machines, by running it with the Farmall tractor.

In Costa Rica a year ago Feb while on vacation, we saw a woodworking shop thar was powered from a waterwheel tjat has all sorts of mechanically belt driven machinery. Very strange to just hear the quiet whirrr as the machinery run before wood was fed in to planers, shapers, saws, etc! I took some video, I'll try to find it.

Here is another UBI -
I use that ~2" wide clear packing tape for many little functions such as reinforcing the edges of our 'blackout shades' where we grab them to pull them down and to make tabs on 'self sealing 'zip-lock' type bags to give us a better pull to open them.

There is also the usual covering of shipping labels on boxes to WX proof the label.

Many other uses can be explored once you start playing with this stuff; like tabs on a manual's pages capturing a written/typed label for the chapter/verse desired(cut to size). Make some ID labels (for power panels) & mount them to the sticky side - then attach the tape to the panel.

I have also used it to reinforce loose-leaf service manual page edges before using a hole punch.

Let your imagination run and you can be a regular 'McGiver'.

Enjoy,

Some more... 8) for the wallet....

1. Use the tape to reinforce those little plastic pockets in the wallet.
2. Use it as a poor man's laminate for cards, etc..
