Ours is the same idea as Colby's but permanently mounted on a strip of teak and held up with a snap. We love this set up, it's simple, quick and easy. Pics in our Projects album.
The plastic strips are "awning rail" and they are used in may RV and Boat applications. Most RV supply houses, as well places as Sailrite carry them. They are also used for attaching many Bimini tops on the C Dory. Some are aluminum, some are plastic. There are at least two different sizes.

I did speak to my canvas guy earlier, and as I think it was Bob said, they are the tracks used for RV awnings. I don't know exactly who his supplier is, but he said any RV supply store should have them, or able to get them. Colby
