What Trailer Winch Do You Have for Your CD25?

We need to buy a new trailer winch, want a geared one with a flat strap to replace the power winch with the cable. It looks like the largest Fulton, the T3700 rated at 3,700 lbs, is their largest. It drops down to the T3205 from there, rated at 3,200 lbs. The Fulton page says your winch should be rated at your fully loaded weight divided by 2 - so that has me wondering if even the T3700 is big enough? What do other folks have? Don't ask about the power winch, just tell us what you have please!
 
Pat, just went out and looked at the TC255 trailer. We've got the Fulton 3205 and it's always done the job on the TC which is at least as heavy as a CD25. A lot depends on whether you've got bunks or rollers, rollers are easier on the winch. Of course it depends on the slope of the ramp too.

I usually power the boat up as far as I can (usually within 18" of the winch stand) hook it up securely and drive up to where it's level. Then with a CAREFUL and judicious use of the brakes, slide it up to the bow rest. :disgust

I'm sure the 3705 will be quite sufficient!

Ditto Pat. We have a T3205, two speed. Works fine although w/ bunks and really low tides at Everett and Cornet, it can be a challenge.

I just picked up the ratchet repair kit from 6 Roblees to repair ours. The shoulder bolt & spring plate had bent [somehow] and although I straightened it as good as I could, I felt better replacing everything.

Before you buy one, let me look for the one I took off of our King Trailer when I installed the Powerwinch. It was brand new, and I may still have it in the storage shed. If I can find it, I'll give it to you.

Why can't I asked about the Powerwinch? I seem to recall exchanging a few PMs with the lady who bought it for you, Happy Birthday very much.

Here is the info stamped on the 2-speed strap winch that came on my King trailer. The capacity is more than adequate because I subscribe to the theory Les shared with us and back the trailer in deep enough that I don't have to drag the boat with the winch. The theory being: Wheel bearings cost fifty bucks and the thing the winch eye is hooked to costs fifty thousand.

Wow, Pat and Patty. A free winch (if he can find it) and a free Origo stove on another thread. Now all you need is someone with a new heater that they don't need that they are willing to give away. :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Hi Pat,
I looked last night, but I couldn't find the winch. I may have let it go to the new owners when I sold the boat. I'm still looking, but it wasn't in any of the usual places for my boat "stuff".

Hi Pat. If you end up buying one, I have the T3700 on my Float-On trailer for the TomCat. It seems quite substantial, but I also ratchet a 5500lb strap to the bow eye when towing. And two more on the stern eyes.

I have not retrieved the boat with the winch yet, but don't anticipate that being a problem

OK, I got looking at these, and the T3205 says "steel cable only." I want a strap, not a cable - anybody have a two-speed winch for a CD25 or Tomcat with a strap rather than a cable?

There's a two-speed winch with a strap on it on my TomCat. Unfortunately, I probably won't get to the boat and trailer this weekend so I can't get the model #. When I zoom in on the photos I have of the boat on the trailer, it looks like a Fulton to me (similar design to what I have on my 22). Maybe you can call Float-On or Marc Groves and ask what they used.
