What to do on a Cruse?

When we first started taking long cruises in BC and SE Alaska, people back home in Utah would ask us "What do you do all day?"

We found there's so much to do (everyday living chores take longer on a little boat, and the critter-watching, scenery, fishing, etc are so fascinating) that we're never bored in the least. I do a lot of reading in the evening when I'm single-handing, but when my wife or other guest is on board, there's never a dull moment. I'm just finishinhg up another summer in SE Alaska, and it seems like it was just yesterday I launched.

Patti and Barry sumed it up pretty well. There are two schools of thought. I agree that you must find out if "cruising" is for you in the first place, and define what cruising means to you. We found out very quickly that we are not cruisers. Driving around on a boat all day at 5 mph is not for us. Some folks like it, and more power to them. Whatever you like and makes you happy. The other end of the scale...a friend took me fishing in his Bass Cat. Yikes! 60 mph on the water, getting blasted by the wind makes one want to change his shorts.

We like to have a destination in mind, a goal. If we're going somewhere, let's get up on plane and go. Not that we're speed freaks or anything. We usually cruise along at about 18 mph to get where we're going. When we arrive, we enjoy what we came for...fishing, soaking in the lake on a pool noodle...relaxing...whatever.

You just have to see if what you think you want to do is going to actually turn out to be fun for you.
