what is this?

What, is this someone's attempt to recover from some sort of towing encounter -- of the wrong kind... Looks as this setup would be rather cumbersome with those fuel tanks and engine taking up the aft region.

Looks like an Arima windshield / soft top on a C Dory's body ..............They are next door to each other . I wonder what the boats do at night.........

I've seen one of those in Longview and about hurt my neck from the whiplash. I was thinking as I drove by that it was an odd looking Arima, but then noticed the C-Dory sticker. I believe that the factory did make a few of those Arima looking boats in the 80's I believe they called a pro angler. It would be nice if Mr Toland could chime in here for some history lessons.

That was a one of a kind boat. Our head laminator bought the hull and deck house from C-Dory Inc and he filled in the outboard well and installed a inboard jet pump. It was well built, it once hit a rocky breakwater and flew over 40’ before hitting the car. No damage to the hull was incurred. The pilot was not so lucky. In short the hull was not designed for a jet pump and the boat can spin out of control very easily. The hull is a 21’ X 7’6” “V” bottom. The boat was produced with the Arima style top deck and a traditional C-Dory cabin. I didn’t like the boat and it was soon taken off the market.

wait, sooooooo that specific boat is haunted???.....oooooooOOOOOoohhhhHHHHHHHHHHH

So what specifically happened in that incident? how did the jet push the hull to far? At what speed would it make the hull, engine, and pilot to fly 40 ft?

Mark;
When I reread your comment I noticed you said that you used a Cdory hull with a "V". Did Cdory have a hull mould with semidisplacement lines at one time?

The accident happened when the pilot drove the boat head-on into a raised parking area that jutted out into the lake. The bank was made of large rock and was about 8 feet high.

C-Dory Inc built two hulls with “v” bottoms, a 21’ and a 26’

Hi Brats, For you information I will post a picture and specs of the 21' Offshore in my photo album. I also have some original C-Dory brochures from 1985 that came with Cute-C when I purchased her from the original owner. Will post some of those too , asap. The brochures are almost newspaper size and are printed on newsprint so will scan as best as I can.

Mark,
on Behalf of all the C-Brats , I would like to thank you very much for keeping up with us here. and giving us your counsel on the history and the special information on all the C-Dory and Marben models.

Cool. Ditto. Mark, hope to meet you in Seattle in Jan at the show. Realy enjoying re-building the 14th and last 18 Angler hull....or, as I understand it was the last one made. I would love to have a pic of us together with a photo of C-Byrd after some of Wefing's locals handy work has been applied, along with meeting any of the other Toland family. Many thanks to your father and family for starting such a great boat.

Mark, thanks for the info. You mentioned that the boat could spin out of control easily. Is this more due to the weight balance being off thus putting too much bow in the water or due to the jet not having a skeg to help hold it straight?

I've noticed that even the CD22 will hook on you if you put the bow too low and that is why I'm asking.

I still think this is a neat boat and I really wish I had the funds to pick it up. But I have too many boats in the driveway as it is!

The boat was light and narrow. Most jet powered hulls shape the chine to give the hull good tracking ability, to make up for the lack of a rudder. This hull “originally anyway” had no provision for directional stability. The original owner would take the boat to speed and then spin the wheel resulting in a 360 plus degree spinout. Didn’t keep it from catching fish however, there’s been a lot of fish blood on her decks.

Little did I know the add for my boat would generate such interest. The only reason I am selling it is that my wife is a spoiled brat and insists on something bigger. Personally I have loved it. It is super fast and since I added a control fin to the jet nozzle it handles much better. To bad the engineers didn't come up with that. It is special and unique, which is why it caught my attention in the first place. Now that I know that it is haunted and a collectors item , maybe I should raise the price?? Don't forget, It is a C-Dory so wave if you see me flying by. Alex.

Don't know how much bigger you are looking for but have you looked at the 25' C-Dory or the TomCat? Both super nice boats.
