Welcome to the C-Brats!

Thanks for the warm welcome. Im sure I'll have questions over time. Right now I need to get the boat registered and insured, etc and will launch on Friday and take her to her new (temporary) slip. Im using a friends private dock for a while. Im on a waiting list for my own slip. Hopefully it wont be too long.

Regards,

Hello, C-Brats,

I recently discovered c-dories and this site. What a great boat and a great group of people. After surfing some of the cruise reports and photos, I would classify myself as a Wanna-C. Now is just need to convince my better half.

I have a lot a questions and hope to meet some of you soon. Andrea and I have decided to rent Wefing's Das Boot and attend the Gulf Coast Gathering in October.

Regards,

Terry S – welcome to the group.

Glad to have you aboard.

Greetings All,
After lurking about for several months we recently purchased Stan Ketcham's Wanderer from Sportcraft in Oregon City, and after shoveling about 3 feet of snow off the boat parking we now have the C-Dory 22 cruiser here with us outside of Spokane. Now for the lakes to thaw........

I have read a great deal of the posts and conversation on the site and have learned a lot. The next step is to let the boat teach me the rest of what I need to know. I have been in smaller sail boats until this. The last is a 19 foot lightning that will go to my son on his next birthday.

More later.

Mike

Hello everyone. I have lurked on this site for some time now and have decided to open up a bit. I am from Vancouver Island Beautiful British Columbia (not shy about it). I have been looking at new boats for a while now and I am at a toss up between a C-Dory 22 angler and a Hewescraft 22 Ocean Pro. I really like the support and information on this site. Keep up the good work. I really like the salty looks of the C-Dory and it keeps me coming back again and again. I am not a speedster in any way and with the price of fuel going up I am leaning towards the C-Dory. Anyways hello.

Welcome! Indeed, the community you get along with the boat is awesome! Your C-Brat friends will soon become your new best friends!

Welcome, Coal Miner.

Glad you found the site. Its a great place to learn everything and more about the boats and the folks who choose them. You said you are from Vancouver, Island. That a little bit like saying you're from Alberta, its a big place. There are several brats from the island. Where are you located? If you are at all close to Sidney, there's a C-Brat get together in May at Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. The Sidney ferry stops there and a gathering is a great way to see the boats and their owners firsthand and get a ride. Lots of us, me included, have done that before we bought our boat. Anyway, welcome.

Coal Miner,

Welcome to the board!

If you go to 'Our C-Dorys', (see the top menu bar), you can sort the list in various ways, including location and boat size.

If you find a nearby member with your prospective boat size, send them a PM (private message), also accessed from the top menu bar. I haven't met a C-Brat yet that won't talk about or show off their boat!

We have a member named Sailor-D, who has a 22 cruiser, located not too far south of Nanaimo.

If you want to attend the Friday Harbor gathering, check out the info at 'Event signups', again from the top menu bar.

Hello Coal Miner,
We live next door in Lantzville, give me a call will meet for a :beer.
Port Boat House is the C-Dory dealer on the island.

Later Dave, The Brat Hatter.

I owned a 22' Hewescraft SeaRunner and was considering an Alaskan before we bought the Tom Cat. My wife was the deciding factor, as she felt that the interior of the C-Dory was much more welcoming than the cold, hard metal of the aluminum boat. Hewescraft makes excellent boats and if I were considering a fishing-only machine I might consider a Hewescraft again. But that would take me out of the C-Dory family, which, truthfully, is one of the best reasons to own one.

I live on the mainland, so if our over this way, let me know.
Not sure how close you are to buying but. there was a Cdory dealer in Langley that has been dropped by them as they couldn't supply follow up service. They have had a nicely loaded 25 sitting in the yard for over a year now. Not sure what they are asking but I think they would like to get rid of it. See if you can swing a deal for the boat and trailer only, then take it up to Port to get fitted out.
It's at Galeon Marine in Langley, not the one in Richmond.
Good luck on you purchase.

I forgot to mention one other major difference between my old Hewescraft and my current Tom Cat. The Hewescraft hull would get very hot in the summertime and I would have to put a wet towel or similar over the gunwales where bare skin could come in contact with the metal such as where people boarded or sat. I mean painfully, burning hot! This was in Utah where can get pretty hot in the summer. In the winter the hull conducted the cold equally well.

The fiberglass hull of the C-Dory is a better insulator from both heat and cold.

Ok so I am still new at this but am very happy to found this place, these folks, all this conversation and to have a (new to me) very pretty 1998 C-Dory cruiser sitting in my boat parking among the rapidly melting snow. One of my nice kids gave me a copy of the USCGA Boating Skills and Seamanship text, 13th edition. In the very beginning on page 2 of the introduction is a C-Dory 22 at play on the Sacramento River. Hows that for great?

Thank you for all the replies. I have been talking to a few dealers about a loade 22 angler. I figure go all out or nothing. I would like to thank Sealion and other 22 angler owners for photos posted as this model is not as popular as the cruiser. If I decide on this vessel I'll be sure to post photo's as much as possible as I consider this a major factor for future buyers.

Welcome to our little place on the web!

We're glad you found us and appreciate your taking the time to join. If you have an interest in C-Dory boats, you have certainly come to the right place.

We are a friendly bunch; kind of laid back and straight forward folks who have discovered a boat that fits our pace of life perfectly. There aren't any real rules or charters for this group because we haven't had the need for them. We all seem comfortable with the simple expectation to just be nice.

The site is very easy to navigate, and choosing Help from the list of links in the title header at the top of any page will get you answers for most questions that come up. Clicking on Forums will display a list of the various discussion areas we have in place. You will see that the site has two main sections - the Pub and the Library. Finding what you're looking for is pretty easy.

If you have a C-Dory and want to show her off, we can set you up with a photo album named for your boat. We also do this for members who are soon to be getting a C-Dory. Generally, we wait until an album is requested so we don't have a lot of empty ones occupying server space. Because the server space is limited, we prefer to keep the personal albums in place for C-Dorys only.

You don't have to post messages if you don't want to, but rarely is not having anything to say reason enough to hold most of us back. If you have any comments or questions, you are encouraged and very much welcome to post in any thread that suits your interest, or to start a new discussion if needed. Somebody is sure to answer or help you find a previous discussion on a similar subject.

So come on in and meet the great people who call themselves C-Brats. We are all looking forward to meeting you.

Thanks, and have fun!
will you please set up a photo album for HIGH TIME? Thanks
