We bit the bullet--bought the boat

Well, we did it. I just came back from writing Les at EQ a deposit check on a new 22 cruiser he had in the yard. I'm in shock, my bank is gleeful and we should be able to take the soon-to-be named C-Cakes to the Lopez Island gathering. Les says he should have her ready in time so that will not be the maiden voyage.

C-Cakes has black trim, high top, radar arch; and will have twin Honda 40's, Raymarine C80, trimtabs, etc. etc.

Now we're really going to have to start paying attention to the accumulated wisdom and tips on this site.

And seriously, C-Brats was a major factor in our decision to buy a C-Dory. We could have gotten a 25' Bayliner Classic Cruiser for less money but it would not come with C-Brats attached. I have been monitoring this list for over a year and have been active for a few months. The camaraderie and kindness so evident every time I have been to the site has been really nice. The C-Dory folks have a great resource here, C-Brats sold the boat almost as much as the boat sold itself.

So thanks, folks. We will look forward to seeing you and asking question, after question, after question...

Welcome aboard Barry & Patti.

You didn't need the lottery after all and you ended up with a bigger boat than you originally considered. You made the right choice.

Congratulations!! I too just bought a 2002 25 Cruiser. I am elated as well and also a little nervous especially about writing that large check. C-Brats was also influential in my decision making. I have watched this web site for a long time as I was making my decision and it is a real pleasure to feel amongst friends. It feels like a family with strong backup support. Bill

Congrats, Barry & Patti - it seems like just a few weeks ago that we were giving you the tour of Daydream - oh, wait, it WAS only a few weeks ago...you will never be sorry with your choice!

Sunfish,
Can't get to Lopez as I am an east coaster primaily in Barnegat Bay which is west of a barrier island by the name of Long Beach Island. Very shallow bay and the shallow draft of the C-dory essential. Will do a little exploring in the upper Chesapeke as well. I hope there are east coast get togethers as well. Bill

Bill(OtterC),

Congrats on your new boat too! You have the 3rd C-otter on the board!
Yes, there are some east coast gatherings. Look under the upcoming events on the main page. There's a gathering 05/06 - 05/07 at Lake Winnipesaukee, New York and another schedile for 06/02 - 06/04 - Lankford Bay Marina, Eastern Shore. The latter is fairly close. Also, you can always float your own idea for a gathering. You'd be amazed at how many people will respond and show up. It only takes two boats to make a "gathering" (one if you have multiple personality disorder  ).

Fishin Steve,

My wife, Patti, used to be a journalist (C-Span and The Gunnison Country Times..Gunnison, Colorado) and her editor, for what ever reason, started calling her PatECakes. It stuck. She is "Cakes" to him, Gramma Cakes to our grandson, etc. So.... Pat C Cakes would have everyone calling her Patsy, hence C-Cakes. Now I have to find out how names are applied to the boats. I guess they are decals. Any suggestions for sources?

Any good local sign shop can print up the name on quality vinyl. Fall down easy even for retired O-6's. You can use MS Word fonts or any font you want as long as you supply them with the font (floppy or CD). Most shops now have Windows based software for their signs.

We hunted around, found the font we liked, printed the name out on regular paper and assembled it for a beta size check before going to the shop. Other than the "J", I think the height was 3 1/2 or 4 inches on ours.

If you're really unsure, drag the boat to the shop and they'll usually install it for ya.
