Water under V-berth

I have discovered water under the V-berth. I know there has been an earlier discussion about this problem but I can't locate it with the search engine. I think it is coming from the rode locker, I have an inspection plate so water removal shouldn't be a problem. Any help on the repair will be appreciated.
 
I don't know if the 25 and 22 are similar in this respect, but on my 22, the anchor rode locker drain passes through two layers of glass fibre with a small space between them. Water can get into the drain and go between these two layers. It then goes into the floatation foam and eventually down into this area.
I solved the problem by epoxying a tube into the hole.
On the 22 there is a very small inspection cover about 1 inch dia under the Porta-Potty and I check it regularly. A turkey baster is a good tool for water removal.
Another source might be the rub rail attachments. An amazing amount of water gets trapped behind those rails, even from simple overnight condensation.

I think Dr.Bob of Thataway showed a repair and so did some others, of a anchor locker drain tube whose inside origin was a few inches ABOVE the bottom of the locker floor. they removed the outside cover, drilled a new drain hole from the bottom, and bonded some type of flexible pipe/hose stuff in place, cut that off and replaced the outside cover.

Some TomCats had the same problem.

Check out some of my post and pictures pertaining to water in my CD-25. The reason basically was not a good seal in the anchor rode compartment and the drain was to high from the compartment floor.

I'm thinking about a C-25 or Tomcat purchase. I'm trying to keep a record of all repairs I expect to have to make on a brand new boat :roll:

How did this problem show up for you? Did you have ruined balsa core?
 
OK, then...just to balance things out. We did not have this problem on our 2005 CD25, at least as far as we know!

Dito for me. I sealed and raised the floor of the anchor locker.
 
This is a well known problem on 2005/2004 C-25's. The factory is well aware of it. I'm surprised they haven't told everyone about it, because it's a heck of a surprise. We found it last year, and thought (at first) the hull was leaking.

The problem is a bad job of sealing the anchor locker. Water comes in via the vent and instead of going out the same hole, goes down into the compartment under the V-berth. When enough builds up, it comes out at the hole for the water line and the equivalent hole on the other side. Since the cabin floor is curved, the best way to drain the water is to drill a small hole just above the cabin floor where the V-berth bulkhead starts. And then seal it.

While you're getting the anchor locker resealed, check the rub rail behind the head. That area has also been know to leak.

Thankyou everyone, I will remove the rode and chain this weekend and inspect the interior. I had read about the faulty drain when I puchased the boat (2nd hand) last year and sealed it so it must be in the locker. I don't have any reason to suspect any real damage because I assume the areas are sealed. I have an inspection plate that will allow water removal and from that I think there is less than 10 gallons.
 
A leak in this are should not cause a core problem. The C Dories are quite different than the Tom Cats. The C dory has a locker, with the lowest area if not sealed properly will drain under the V berth. The Tom cat has a center anchor locker, and second lockers on each side--none of these can drain (easily) into the hulls under the bunk. The Tom Cat has huge storage areas in the hulls under the bunk.

Agree build up the floor and make sure it is sealed. Properly.

I have heard of the water intrusion behind the head, and up under the gunnel in some of the 25's which didn't have the tabbing go all of the way to the top of the bulkhead.
 
Does anyone know if this problem has actually been fixed by the factory in newer 25's? I will investigate in ours probably yet this week unless I hear ohterwise. It's a 2008, been off the trailer from the factory about 6 weeks now, ours and in the water about 3. It's due (over due) back to the dealer for the 10hr ckup & installation of canvas - we're close to 20 hrs now. We didn't buy the trailer, she'll stay in the water, we boat year 'round here.

This should not be a problem in the new boats. But I would put it on my list of "things to check". One never knows.
