Water Pressure Pump

Some of you know I posted on how the freshwater pump gave up the ghost on 'Au Kai. Seems to be a common theme with 2007's. And yes, everyone was correct on using a Jabsco one for replacement. The quote on the manufacturer sticker: "FOR MARINE APPLICATIONS REPLACE WITH 31395-0092".

So...I contacted Matt @ Kitsap Marina asking what he could do since it's technically a Fluid Marine "non-warranty warranty" boat. He called me back this afternoon. He/they will make good and replace the pump. Good to know he's willing to take care of his customers. Now when I need a kicker, or 2.5 horse for a dinghy etc...I know Matt and Kitsap Marine will be my source. Good dealer support is hard to come by...

Hi Eddie,
Ain't good dealers great? Carrie and Gene at Mobile East Marine, here in Eastern NC, did the same for me twice in our CD-25. The first time was definitely under warranty, the 2nd maybe thru Jabsco. I can't figure why C-Dory didn't use the marine rated pump in the first place. But I had one of those seize up on me, too.

Anyone know if there will be an issue using the 1.9 GPM Jabsco vs the 2.9 GPM one recommended on the sticker? (Matt sent me the 31295-0092 not the 31395-0092)

Mind you, we're heading out for the Bellingham CBGT on Friday morning and we NEED H20 on board. I just wanna know if I need to get down to Fisheries and exchange it, if possible.

It'll work fine , it will be a more conservative flow rate. Important on the boat with limited H2O supply.

Thanks, Marc. Perhaps it will help us do what we don't seem to do ourselves.

Whoops.

I intended to send the 2.9 pump.

If it's a problem, let me know.

ANd have fun in Bellingham!

Thanks. Anyone can make a mistake with a digit. Due to the time constraints with the trip, I'm gonna install it and see how the flow is and if The Admiral is happy with it or not.

I have a Flo-Jet water pump on my 2006 25' Cruiser, located aft port. The system seems to have a lot of air in it, and I don't know how to get it out. The water flow is very uneven. Any ideas how to get it running right, or is this the time to replace the water pump with Jabsco "marine" Model #31395-0092? Will that take much refitting, rewiring, etc by a non-mechanic/non-plumber owner (and don't you dare say that a non-mechanic/non-plumber shouldn't own a boat!)?

No big deal - and we're glad you own a boat! The other Jabsco (assuming it is the same unit, only "marinized" should be a matter of clipping wires, crimping wires, mounting it, and hooking the hoses up (click in place).

It appears that our latest pump is about to give up the ghost (running intermittently, what it did the last 3 times it had to be replaced). This one lasted about 3 years (I guess I should be happy about that); on the bright side: we brought a replacement pump with us.

It's a boat. In the words of the philosopher Rosanna Rosannadanna: it just goes to show you, it's always something.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Too late to edit the above post, so here's an addition: I just pulled out one of the replacement pumps I had in the truck... it has a 3 year warranty. I replaced the last one 3 years and one month ago. :? Which is 2 years and 7 months better than the previous-previous (non-marinized) pump I put in.

Ain't that just how it seems to go.

They are somewhat rebuild-able, but with the cost of parts, might as well just buy a new one. On the Comox trip our's would run constantly; bad pressure switch. Roger & Bob located one in town, which I bought and swapped out. I then decided to rebuild the bad one to keep as a spare. I ordered the part from Fisheries Supply...$32.69 and it was the wrong one. Now I have to drive to Lake Union, return this one and hopefully, get the proper part. Like I said; ain't that just how it works.

2005 25. The Shure Flo water pump has been progressivly getting weaker. Not had any problems with it since the factory put it in. Some of you have replaced with a Jabsco 31395-0092. Is this pretty much a swap out, ie hoses the same size, don't have to replace hoses, etc?
I ordered one from WM, listed at $160 or so. When I told them I could get one on-line for $77 they just said bring in a copy of the webpage and we match any price.

So I am going out and start removing the water heater so I can get to the pump.

I pulled and rebuilt the water pump on Journey On. Yes, the hot water heater makes access a bit difficult, but I could get the pump out and in without pulling anything else. One can come down through the top, if I remember correctly. The real bear was putting all the wiring clamps back in.

Also, the problem with the pump wasn't pump failure, but being clogged. The junk was plastic stuff from the water tank, but any crud will do. So, when you replace/rebuild the pump, install a cheap water filter in front of the pump.

I did replace it w/ the noted part number, Dave. It was an easy swap and I used water tight quick disconnects on the two wires. Here's why:

The issue w/ our later 25's is the pump is no longer behind the H20 heater, like yours, where it is nice and dry. Ours are in the port bilge where it's nice and wet...constantly. And they were screwed into the core to boot. I moved mine up, filled the holes, mounted vertically on a piece of Starboard...but it still gets "damp". We're on our third pump; fourth if you count the original factory-installed one. One was my fault; I didn't drain it/fill it w/ antifreeze prior to winter. The other two either just died or what I noted above, constantly running due to bad pressure switch.

The pumps come w/ all the quick disconnect fittings etc. Should be a piece of cake for you.

I removed the pump without taking out the heater and took it apart. Found nothing in the way of "junk" put it back together and it still puts out half of what it used to. Replacement should be here in a day or two.
