Water Noise Through Hull

Dear C-Brats:

I sneaked away from work and spent ca. 3 hours this afternoon on the Erie Canal. I had already taken the cushions out of the V-berth for the winter.

I was amazed at how much more water noise came through the hull in the front part of the boat. (Note: the canal is flat water, and I was merely "trolling" at 6-10 mph. I suspect the noise would have been much greater at faster speeds and in rougher waters.)

It makes me think that laying down carpet, not only in the aisle but also inside the cabinets, could make a big difference in reducing noise levels inside the cabin.

Now, I have to admit that it was cold (in the low 30's), so I had the cabin door closed (and the heater going). The water temp was 37.5 degrees.
