Water in cockpit

This is my second year owning a CD 22. The first year ,after heavy rains and 2-3 weeks between visits, my cockpit would have water sloshing under the floor covers. My battery would be dead.

I installed a battery charger and shore power to eliminate the battery drain.

Twice this season after heavy rains, I noticed water again sloshing around under the floor covers. Nothing above the covers. The camper back seems to allow some run-off near the two lazzerettes to get into the cockpit.

My question is it normal for the bilge pumps on the CD22 to allow some accumulation of water before pumping?

This is a 2006 model with the pump location at the cabin door step.
Thanks

In our 2006 22' with the cabin door and transom bilge pumps it is not at all unusual to have a little water under the removable floor boards (large fiberglass factory optional) before the cabin pump cycles on. I think the level in the "bilge" where the cabin pump is located needs about 2" of water before it cycles on. That little "bucket" usually has about 1" in it all the time. I've never noticed more than a couple of quarts of water in the cockpit before I hear the pump. The transom area pump almost never cycles on.

Yup, it's normal for some water to collect before the float switch on the pump triggers. I'm not to comfortable with 2" of water in the cockpit though (at least not while offshore fishing) so I just finished wiring in the manual over ride wire so I can flip the switch when I want to. If you have the Rule-mate 1100 chances are it has a brown and white wire that can be wired to a switch (I just spliced into the wire used on the mid cabin pump) . So when I flip the switch at the helm both pumps come on.

Like I said. Its not a lot of water-definately less than 2 ". I just turn the switch to manual and it pumps out.
Thanks for the replies.
