Virtual flyby of AK shoreline

This website allows you to virtually fly along most of the coast of Alaska. Maneuvering around and getting use to the web interface takes some getting used to, but its way cool What’s great is the Surveys are conducted at extreme low tides during the summer.

We met one of the ShoreZone surveys this weekend in Juneau, she was doing a slide presentation at the State museum.

Way cool, indeed! But I'm likely to be up all *&#$! night playing with this thing.

I just spent an hour pouring over the low tide aerial view of an estuary whose basic channel I learned in a small skiff 40 years ago. I acquired local knowledge through listening to old timers' descriptions, shoreline walking, and many cautious trial and error attempts. Had these videos and photos been available back then, I might not have had to use that prop-repair kit (block of wood, ball peen hammer, and a file) as much in the early years.

Thanks for posting this. :thup :thup :thup

I understand that there was an even more detailed shore photography project in Alaska this last summer to assess the tsunami debris. However, there was some question whether it will be made available to the public (despite it being publically funded). Will post to let you know if I find that it has become available.
