Vibration / Noise Norcold Refridge on a TC 255

We have a TC-255 with a Norcold Refrigerator.

Sometimes it is pretty quiet and other times it vibrates and is really noisy. If it is vibrating, I can occasionally open the door and push things around and that will stop the noise. Other times, I can just push on the door to stop the vibration. At it's worst, the vibration travels thru the boat and the metal work under the Wallace stove on the starboard side vibrates in resonance with the refer.

Have put rubber washers behind the four screws holding the refer in place but that doesn't seem to help much.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Chinese Norcold. We got one with Journey On, and you haven't lived until that thing starts resonating at 3 am.

Here's what I did to quiet it down. Pull it out of the cabinet, start it and notice, by touch, what vibrates. Get some silicone rubber sheet (high temp, at the least) and wrap it around the vibrating parts, and some stainless wire to pull those parts gently together. With ours it was the cooling radiator and associated feed lines. Next, if you can, slide a layer of rubber under the refridg. I couldn't do that because the cabinet was too tight, but that'll isolate the thing from the boat. Third, when you slide it back in, put rubber between the front flange and the cabinet. You can now sleep, at least it worked for us.

The front panel now vibrates now and then, but I just kick it. Makes me happier and quiets it down. Worked now for 6 years.

I find that when the Norcold is jam-packed full is when it is the quietest! So, the cure I guess, is to take more food, snacks, beer,etc, etc. Works for me :wink:
 
Ours was making vibration noise at the latch. Disassembled and stretched the spring, that did it. We also put a lot of fiberglass insulation around it. Now we sleep very soundly. We are on a six week trip to San Juans & desolation sound.
