VHF Channels for B C Canada

Here are the VHF Channel assignments for B C Canada. Note that you must set your VHF channel switch to Canada. The choices on my VHF are USA, Canada, and International .

Some channels are restricted for various purposes.
Channels 11,12, & 71 are traffic control, small boats should listen only.
Channel 66A is to be used to call marinas in BC. Marinas cannot answer on 16.
Use 83A (Canada Coast Guard) for radio checks in Southern BC waters. Do not use 16 for radio checks.
As in the USA, channel 70 is for DSC calling only. Do not use voice on Channel 70.

These are posted as photos in my 'Nancy H' album.

Yes, I have heard of the new list. They have replaced the 'a' with '10', as in 79a is 1079.

I wonder when VHF radios will show the new format?

I also wonder if we are to say 'ten-seventy-nine' instead of 'seventy-nine-a'?

The interim transition should be fun. Seems like a rather cumbersome change that is change for change sake.

Dave, the offshoreblue link doesn'e open for me, just gives me a "Popup" message that I need to download a "doc to PDF" program in order to see VHF Channels.

My guess is that this change is to allow channel input using a numerical keypad.

Harvey, Larry H took the downloadable PDF file and converted it to a jpeg file, which you no doubt have already seen. Depending on what platform you are using for your computer, to directly see PDF files after they have been downloaded, you will need to search out and install an app. My Android tablet can use three different apps. They all work just fine. YMMV.

This marine VHF channel breakout for Canada business seems unnecessarily complicated to me. Hence the plethora of lists. The one I referenced earlier being one of the worst. My apologies. I scratched around and found this one, which seems to put it in the most straightforward form. If someone knows of a decent rationale for the four digit designations, I would like to hear it.

Here is that simpler list, in plain English: http://boating.ncf.ca/vhffreqs.html

Thanks guys. I couldn't find any dating on those charts, but no I have one to include in the boat book. Thanks again.
