Vessel Capacity Label

I’d like to obtain a new capacity sticker that reflects 115hp rating for TripleJ, but phone calls to SeaSport haven’t produced results.

Suggestions??

Yep, got it that is is not "required" on the CD 25..... but, still think that I did recall seing one at one point or another....???? Maybe not.

Has the CD25 had a NMMA certificate with the ABYC standards at some point?

My boat has a USCG sticker therefore I assume its required, I’m not about to take it off unless someone can show me the regs stating it’s not required.

When factory built my boat and install a Suzuki DF115 I discussed this with them and they just left off the decal. I think your safe to remove it. Since the new factory does't want anything to do with the boats not produced by them they may look at it as a liability and not want to give you a new decal. If you really want one I would just have one made.

Google Alaska Vessel Capacity Certificate.

This is taken from the Alaska Boating Requirements.

1.4 BOAT CAPACITIES
Be aware of the small-vessel regulations pertaining to engine power and load capacity. Federal law mandates that boats of less than 20 feet in length must have a capacity plate in the steering or helm area. As a boat owner or operator, you should know the recommended gross load capacity that can be safely carried in the hull concerned:

A.It includes the total weight of persons, equipment, stores, fuel, engine assembly and steering controls.
B.It is indicated with the "equivalent number of adult persons."
C.It is indicated on a capacity plate, which, when fitted, is permanently attached to the pleasure craft.

Our 19CD purchased in February 2003 only had a sticker which showed maximum horsepower and nothing else. We weren't aware that there were other capacity type stickers available or required until we attended our seamanship classes through our local Coast Guard Auxillary. We went down to the C-Dory factory and Scott Mathews (C-Puffin) found a sticker which had horsepower, load capacity, etc. Removed old sticker, installed new sticker and we were ready to go. I took a photo of the before and after stickers but never added them to the 19CD R-Matey album.

So far the wording looks like its an "if equipped" situation and if the vessel does not have a capacity plate, there are some general loading guidelines to follow. I guess that sticker's days are numbered.

That is the same capacity sticker I had on my 99 CD-22 . ON my 06 Cape cruiser I have a sticker that reads 120hp ,7persons or 1100lb My boat was built in 6/05 as an 06 model the newer cape cruisers had a 150hp sticker .

the CC-23 is 22ft 9 in and 8 ft beam . How do we use the formula

22 times 8 =176/15=11.7 Is it the overall length or is it the water line length??

Water line length 19by 7. So 19 times 7 =133/15 =8.8

So I wonder what the real numbers are I think the cape Cruiser folks were just being very conservative with their original numbers

I think I will get another cruiser-23 owner to snap apicture and make up a new sticker?

I think DaveS hit it on the head

The only time I've been stopped and boarded, I had my teenaged daughter and a girlfriend on the bow in their Bikinis. :smileo

I guess we need to separate types of "plates" here... some, have only factory info on them, others, have the NMMA Certified using ABYC standards label...or "plates", not just some art work....with general info. Like Dr. Bob Thataway has pointed out in other post.... there is a difference in a boat that has meet and maintains the ABYC standards.

Also, it leaves room for each boat owner to make some choices on weights... and adjustments there of... depending on people(and their sizes), motor(s)...and their sizes/weights and...that illusive..."gear."

Not sure about the folks that get on your boat, but, on a trip under Desception Pass Bridge one day with some swirls going on... we took note of our passenger load. We..."averaged out" at about 250# each...

My plate separates it into 24 people/3375 pounds...or, average of about 140 each (small folks huhh?) :crook .... and/or... 4515 persons, motor, gear....with the NMMA ABYC standards info on the plate.

So, glad to know that they are allowing us as owners/operators to have some flexibility on just how we load our boats....but, at the same time, want to keep our boats capabilities and our safety in mind. Boats are not all the same...and neither are our loads... sometimes we take on a blender and gen set for it....other times, we take on a deck hand to handle the fenders and lines...

Clearly that plate capacity was not based on people eating that good southern cooking. Sounds more like it was designed for South Beach or S. Cal anorexics.

Ah, yes Roger, :wink

How would we make it without our blenders and the trusty Honda. 8) Oh yeah, don't forget the MicroWave (coffee warmer). Kind of makes the old Honda grunt a little. Oops! almost forgot the electric blankets. :smileo Boating has sure changed since I almost set the boat and myself on fire trying to warm my hands over an alcohol stove. :smilep As for my Bikini "Deck Cargo", that was 3 boats and many years ago. I'm very careful of "Coasties" now. They got guns.

I saw a wake board boat on one of our local lakes. They had a blender powered by a small "weed eater" engine mounted on the swim step, and were busily mixing marguaritas for their rather attractive female guests. Ah, to be young again!

I looked at our sticker and it is the same as the one we had on our 22' ...I know that has to be wrong for our 25' , but haven't worried about it too much...may be I should, but have more pressing priorities ...like paying for the boat, gas, trailer brakes ,insurance..... ad nauseum
