Very Hypothetical Question Re: CD 25

Having owned an Albin 25 and now a Venture 23 I think I can answer a few questions.
The Albin 25 is a tank. Solid Swedish built boat. Awesome fiberglass work, woodwork and quality control. Designed for cold water, gets really hot in summer. I had marine air installed and ducted to both cabins.

My boat had a new Yanmar 39 hp diesel. The boat burned 2 QUARTS of diesel an hour at 6.5 kts. Yes, that is correct, 13 nautical miles per gallon. Incredibly efficient engine/hull combination.

That being said, the boat was very tender at anchor and would "snap roll" upright in a swell. I threw the microwave across the cabin several times when encountering boat wakes ( yes, it WAS secured)

Here was the problem: 6.5 Kts was optimum cruise speed and about 9kts was max WOT speed. If you're used to a sailboat speed and have lots of time to get where you're going, get an Albin 25. If you want good economy AND the ability to run 22-40 mph, get a C Dory 22-23-25 with good power! (90, 150, 200hp)
Just my .02

Top speed with a 9.9 Yamaha high thrust kicker on Meander is just under 6 kts. Kicker is offset to starboard so that may have some impact on performance. I doubt if 6 hp would push to hull speed.

The reason I suggested the 115 Merc. CT it has the bigger gearcase of the Merc.150 outboard . So for less weight (370lb vs 450lb or so ) you can have the same performance of the Merc 150 when going slow. Top speed will be different for sure .
Dr. Bob I'm not sure what gearcase the Honda 115/130 used but the Merc CT uses a 14-16 inch prop vs the 13-14 in prop big difference in torgue .Once again this was a hypothetical question Get the 150 hp and 8hp high thrust and be done with it .

Great point about the diameter and increased thrust for the Merc. 115CT (2.1L) (Thrust being a propelling force) :D I suspect it would plane better than the 90's that have been used in the past (Cruise ship). My guess is that it would be fairly close to what the performance with the 130 Honda (2.245L) which would only swing a 13" prop. The Weight of the Honda was 496#.
