Vertical Sliding Window/ Door/ Round two

All the windows went out Tues or Wed except one; where are you C-Weed? On the outside of the box of one of the white windows is a “S” written in magic marker. The screws are zip locked but loose in the packing material; whoever gets that box , search through the packing material for them. If I screwed up on screws (I have lots of extras) or anything else, let me know and I’ll do my best to correct it. Now, for transparency an accounting. DSG charges; shipping 378.67 (2 crates, 177# each), crating 250.00 ($50/3 windows), duty and brokerage 45.00; sum = 673.67 divided by 14 = $48.12/window; white window 251.37, al window 224.81:C-Green packing costs; 13 boxes 114.00, 2 rolls tape 4.50, 1.5 rolls bubble pack 60.00, 0.5 roll stretch wrap 7.00; sum = 185.50 divided by 13 = $14.27/window: final costs white window 251.37+48.12+14.27=$313.76 + UPS; final cost al window 224.81+48.12+14.27=$287.20 +UPS. I’ll be emailing or PMing each one with their UPS charges and tracking number . My payback will be a beer or two (at anchor) when you show up for the Circle Da Keweenaw Tour, eh! which I hope to lead in a year or two. Actually, this effort is my payback for all the good info I have gotten off this site when I was contemplating a C-Dory and of course, since I’ve had one. Enjoy your windows. Jay

Anybody wanting to head up another order is welcome to contact me for any details and my opinion of the best way to proceed. Jay

Thanks again for putting this together  My window arrived in Kenai today & I will be installing it tomorrow.
If you ever get to Alaska look me up. :beer

Sorry as usual I am late to the party. Just got my dory and am interested in driving another round of orders. Especially in Canada. As I am in Canada and we seem to be in the minority, perhaps if any canucks out there are interested and want to jump on the band wagon we can get an order together and I would be willing to organize and ship as Jay did so kindly.

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Kelly

Kelly:

A few others missed the boat  on the order as well. I am sure you would generate more attention/interest on your kind offer by starting a new thread titled:

Vertical Sliding Window/ Door/ Round THREE

I too just got my C Dory and missed the last round. Round. I am interested in getting into the next one for a white unit. Just let me know and I will send a check. Volume really increases the buying power!
I will wait for the next response.
Thanks,
John

I am just getting around to putting my slider/screen window in. Is 3M-4200 the sealant of choice for this application? Seal both sides or just the outside?

Thanks,

There was no sealant around the original window, so I didn't put any on
the replacement. The door is basically starboard or a similar plastic, so if
a leak did develop, it wouldn't be the end of the world. There were no leaks in
a good thunderstorm the other night.

If you are going to use a sealant, you want to create a 'bed'. The way I
usually do this is the lay a bead, insert quarters at the corners of the
frame, and perhaps one halfway down on each side. The quarters are
just barely inside the frame...their job is to create a gap.

I then lightly fasten the window in and let the sealant dry. After it has has set
up so it has some firmness, I remove the quarters and tighten the
screws down. This basically forms a gasket which I've never had leak.

If you don't do something like this, the sealant will be forced out when you
tighten the screws and not do much to prevent a leak.

Oh, I also tape the outline of the frame so squeeze out doesn't get all over the
surface you are mounting on. Perhaps not so important with starboard
since nothing much sticks to it anyhow. But, removing Life Seal from
gelcoat is not so easy.

Thanks,

Mine(1990) was installed with clear sillicone & that's how it went back together  The prob with 4200 is if you ever need to remove the window you are gonna hate yourself
I did both in & out. What squeezes out cleans up with a plastic scraper & rag way easy
Have fun!!

Your right Mike, the clear sealant works good. What little oozed out I just waited 48 hours and cut it right off with an exacto knive.

A very simple mod and a great upgrade. I thought about putting the standard window in the bottom. Two of the crew have four paws and long hair. A German Shepherd and Border Collie. I figured maybe I was better off not seeing all the slober, nose prints and hair.

I live in the land of High humidity, heat, pollen and dust. My boat sits under a boat port with a mooring cover on. This slider will allow much needed ventalation/bug protection while parked. And the mooring cover will help keep out the pollen, bugs and dust.

Thanks again Jay for the window upgrade efforts.

Sorry for the post but the Michigan Dept. of Treasury send me a letter notifying me that I owe $213.96 in use taxes for the imported windows. It appears the feds notified the State of the importation, etc. etc. So I ask that the 13 other lucky owners of doors with opening windows share in this unexpected expense. The way I figure it the white window owners owe $15.50/ea and the aluminum window owners owe $14.50/ea. Please make checks payable to J. B. Green, Jr. and mail to 4012 Portage Cove Drive, Houghton, MI 49931. Also could you please post, pm, or email me letting me know your $'s are coming; I can then pm or email those that don't pick up on this post.

Hi Jay,

Saw the post and I say not a penny more. Well I guess I'll send you a check since you did promise dock space some day at Isle Royale.

I stayed too long at the fair, thinking I would get out again since I had done so little boating this summer. Then it snowed, then it forecast big snow, so two weeks ago I got my boat into my friend's barn. I went over this weekend and winterized the engines. You know you waited too long if snowmobiles pass your truck and trailer as you haul your boat.

I really enjoyed the window this year. The check is in the mail.

Regards,

Mark

Hi Jay,

I bet your heart skipped a couple of beats when you read the State's letter; mine would have The bureaucrats should be worrying about the tons of illegal cigarettes and other substances entering this state illegally rather than spending the time going after a few C-Brats trying to keep cool. In any case, like Mark, I sure enjoyed the window this summer and appreciate all you did to get them for us. I will write a check out to you immediately after finishing this reply and it will be in the mail tomorrow. Pleaae let me know if you don't receive it in a week.

Thanks again,

Rollie/C-Batical
