Vermonters Purchase C-Dory Tomcat from Wefings in Florida

Guess we are now members of the very small group of C-Dory owners from Vermont.

We just purchased our 2009 C-Dory Tomcat 255 "Destiny" from Wefings Marine in Eastpoint Florida. We found that everything good that folks have said about Wefings owner Marc Grove is true and then some. He was extremely friendly, helpful, knowledgable, professional, and thoughtful. Made it well worth the (long) trip down to Florida from Vermont to work with Marc.

We will be taking delivery in Vermont in April and will look forward to regular cruising on Lake Champlain and excursions on the rivers of Canada, the Erie Canal, and the East Coast.

Glad to be joining the C-Brats family.

Best

As a former Vermont-er, and from C-Dorians who have enjoyed marvelous cruising on Champlain, we extend a hearty welcome to you from the C-Brats. We look forward to some great tales from Vermont! Congrats on the new member in your family.

Welcome! We've got Suzi 115's on our TC, they push it along quite well, nearly 40! Those 175's look huge! I'll bet she'll really fly! Glad to see that they made the stern access doors larger than the older models, us older owners (the boat that is) need a trained monkey with 4' arms to reach the bilges down there.

BTW, I'd seriously consider having Marc put permatrims on the engines, makes a big difference for us but maybe with the extra HP, you won't need them? Marc?

We're boatless in Maine right now, boat's in VA. You'll have a lot of fun with her! Congratulations on a great choice!

Bob has them as does Warren and I dont know if they are a big improvement or not . This particular boat is set up and running very well as is , but those that have them on , feel free to chime in !
I ran Warren's boat when he was here and it seemed good , but I had no reference for a before and after .

Peter and Linda:

Congratulations and welcome! Good choice to buy from Marc- as I had mentioned to you in a pm some weeks ago, we bought from him and he has been wonderful to work with.

Regarding the Permatrims, we have them. I feel that they smoothen the ride a bit in choppy water by keeping the nose down.

Wishing you good boating...

I put Permatrims on my boat fairly soon after I bought it so I actually don't have much of a "before" reference either. However, Bob has talked about his before/after impressions in several other threads.

Just got back from Apalachicola Florida and a one week shakedown cruise on our new 2009 Tomcat 255 "Destiny"

It is a real treat to work with Marc Grove and the folks at Wefings. They were amazingly helpful and walked us through all the new systems and additions. They installed Radar, GPS, VHF, autopilot. fish finder etc plus a few special extras. The new teak flooring was absolutely gorgeous. Perfect installation and really beautiful. Hot / Cold shower in the cockpit, chock-cleats on the bow all installed perfectly.

A truly amazing experience. Clearly the right decision to follow the advice of many before me to go with the reputable dealer. Can't wait to get the boat up to Vermont in April.

Many thanks again to Anita and Marc Grove and the staff at Wefings.

Linda and Peter -
So glad to hear that all has worked out well with you and the new addition to your family - now for winter to disappear and the fun to begin. You have some marvelous cruising water and fine experiences ahead. We intend to do some mid-continent cruising this year and perhaps will get as far east as Champlain - would enjoy crossing wakes with the natives! We'll be thinking of you out on 'the pond.'

Peter & Linda: Congrats!!

Hey...the teak flooring sounds cool.... Please take/post a pic of the floors!! Marc, did your crew put the floor down or a sub-contractor? Looking to do the floors in my boat...

I was wondering the same! The teak flooring sounds like a nice touch.

Just posted about 25 pictures to the "Destiny" album - took me a minute and several tries to figure out how to upload that many.

The teak flooring is absolutely amazing. Marc had a subcontractor do it. They did a really super job. We are delighted with it. Makes a huge difference. Would highly recommend it.

Hello Peter,

Congratulations!! That is one TOP NOTCH Tomcat you have. You have really outfitted it nicely. That flooring is great too.

What kind of speeds can you get with the 175s?

Destiny is certainly a beautiful boat. One thought I have is to meet the dealer in the Chesapeake Bay, say Annapolis, and spend a week there. And finish your tow with the Chevvie. Good practice. Mid April in the Chesapeake should be better than mid April in Vermont. Both places are great cruising grounds, but why not try both with your new boat?

Looks like the autopilot is a Raymarine SmartPilot X-5 Sport Pilot for Powerboats. Is it and how did it work (in Florida.)
