Joe,

This web site says water is 8.33lbs/ gallon and gasoline varies from 5.8 to 6.5 lbs/gallon.

Larry-
I based the conversion on the oversimplified fluid ounce relationship of water volume to weight, which was found to be in error as the history of measurement unfolded. A fluid ounce of weight was found not to actually weigh one ounce, but slightly more, as more exacting measurements were taken and comparisons made between the evolving fluid volume measurement and weight systems.
I once read about the whole messy and quite boring history of the development of the different Western (European/Occidental) measurement systems, and it's about as interesting as this discussion, and something not worth repeating unless one is bored stiff, stiff with boredom, or simply a bored stiff.
I considered the eight pound number to be precise enough for the conversion of the recalled figure of 110 gallons, which wasn't a "for sure" figure, anyway.
The differential ratio of 8 vs. 8.33 lbs is 0.04125 or 4.0125%, close enough for a guess as to the weight of the gas once I had seen the figure of 110 gallons, and realized this was like having two 55-gallon oil drums of fuel in the ass end of the boat along with the motors. The 4.125% difference at approximately 660 lbs =27.225lbs, hardly enough to loose sleep or drop your pants over.
Your statement that "gasoline varies from 5.8 to 6.5 lbs/gallon" still puts my simplified conversion number of 5.9 within the ballpark for our purposes of conjecture since we're not dealing with rocket fuel, science, or mentality here anyway.

Thanks for the support and being anal and contributing to the cause. Every little bit adds to the pile of information that threatens to envelop, overwhelm, and enrich our lives. Maybe it will all help us grow beautiful flowers in the end! :rose :rose :rose
I take back my inference that you have too much time on your hands. Just not enough meaningful work, perhaps.
Maybe you, Larry, and I should form a club along with other C-Brats of similar interests in preciseness and perfunctory persuasion. We could resurrect slide rules, pocket protectors, crew cuts, and horned rimmed glasses along the way. Those were the days!

Follow your own advice and keep your life jacket on. It's getting deep around here!
Joe. :thup
