Vail CDory 25 at a lower price

I want to lower the price on my CDory Cruiser. I think I was a bit high when I asked for $85000. Since it doesn't have much in the way of electronics, and needs some TLC, it may be worth somewhere in the $70s. I am willing to entertain lower offers. I'm sure we can work something out. It's a great boat and it needs someone to be good to it.

The water tank needs work. It leaks into the bilge. I am not sure if it is the tank itself or the fittings that are leaking. I stopped using it a long time ago. I have been using bottled water as that is no trouble for me.

I can email pictures and a more thorough description if you are interested.

It looks like you'd still be way high when compared to other 25's on the block. Specially with potential major problems with water damage to the hull and without some major electronics.

Not a good time to be asking more than 50 to 60 grand for any boat if you want to sell in a reasonable amount of time. But, who knows. It isn't an old boat.

I saw her say that the water tank or some fitting to it was leaking so she quit using it. I didn't see anything that would make me suspect "potential major problems with water damage to the hull".

Also, lacking major electronics isn't a huge deal. That can be solved with $5k and the new buyer will wind up with up-to-date electronics.

I agree with Roger--there is nothing which suggests that there might be "major damage to the hull". That should not be said unless an individual who is knowledgable has inspected the boat, or been discovered on survey. She has been very straight forward on what the issues on the boat were.

Granted the water tank needs to be investigated; but it could be some very simple issue which is solved with a hose clamp or tightening a fixture. This type of problem has been common with C Dorys built a few years ago. I assume that this is a Fluid Marine built boat--and generally they were well done.

This appears to be a very lightly used, and one of the newer C Dory 25's on the market. It is always difficult to set a price. However $50,000 is a bit low even in todays market. I would rather buy a boat with minimal electronics and select my own-but of course not everyone would agree with that approach.

I agree with the comments, but I'm just thinking about the economic times. I know that people will pay more and sacrifice some hard earned money beyond that which they may have budgeted to get a CD. (I did).

It just comes down to how bad and how fast she needs the boat to sell.

Plenty of folks seem to be shelling out many times this to get a new Ranger.
Although the economy has not fully picked up--and many of worry about the future--there are those who can afford to buy a nearly new boat for considerably less than a new one costs....

I seem to remember reading about a cd 25 with water system damage due to freezing. Is this the one? And if so are there possibly some split tubes. Are they accessible?

Keep in mind that a new 25 Cruiser will run close to $100,000 very lightly equipped these days, so 70-ish may be a good value.

I would recomend getting the water tank issue fixed. It may be a very simple problem, but the fact it hasn't been addressed may give a buyer pause. In this market, you have to present the boat in the best light possible, and a leaking water tank is a negative item that detracts from the buyers first impression of the boat.

Amanda,
I don't know if the water tank issue on your boat is a simple fix or a major but.....my neighbour had his water tank leak and it involved cutting the floor of the boat out (not a C-Dory) and replacing the tank and refinishing the floor. The cost was around $8500. My point here is that it was covered by his insurance and he just paid the deductable. If the repair is simple...do it. If the repair is extensive and expensive...call your insurance company.

Thank you all for your comments and advice. Let me straighten a few things out:
There is no damage to the hull other than a few scrapes due to docking errors. I have the touchup paint the guys at Sportcraft gave me when I bought the boat from them. There are just a few small scrapes.

During a major fteeze when I first had the boat, the water tank started leaking into the bilge. Since I didn't find out about it in time, it caused an algae build up in the bilge. I have since gone to great effort to keep the bilge dry. I have cleaned the bilge as best I could and there is no more algae growth, but the bilge is certainly not the pristine white it was when I bought it.

I think the biggest asset of this boat is its motor. It is practically brand new and has received good care. The boat FLIES!
I am willing to entertain an offer in the mid 70s range.
I am not in a hurry to sell the boat.
As far as electronics: whoever buys it should put in all the stuff they want.
I hope I have answered all the questions. If you want to see pictures, you will have to email me at montmorenci@msn.com so I can send them as an attachment. I have tried to attach pictures on the brat site and I simply cannot figure out what is preventing my attachments. I am not very good with computers.
Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. You guys are the best!

This boat is lightly used, and stored inside. I would be surprised if there is any kind of serious damage. As mentioned, Amanda has been pretty upfront in her adventures with the 25. I'm sure it was a tough decision to go this route. The chance to put in your own electronics, what you want and where, is a plus, not a minus. And nice low hours on the OB. Good deal for someone.

Amanda,

I had "water tank issues" with my Cape Cruiser (aka: Venture 23) that about had me banging my head on the table.

Mysterious bilge water was finally determined to be coming from the watertank, and the watertank was FINALLY isolated to the plastic fitting where the hose enters the tank. The hot glue-like stuff that bonds the fitting to the plastic tank was brittle and delicate. (I suspect it was cracked during installation when a workman grabbed the tank by the fitting, torquing it, and cracking the glue bond.)

Anyway, I completely rebuilt the fitting, and no Leak. Frankly a MUCH easier 'fix would be to fill the tank then draw-down the later level to below the level of the fill hose. In my case, if I fill the 20-gallon tank then drain off four gallons it lowers the water level to below the level of the fill point.

Good Luck!

Best,
Casey

Glad to hear from you two with your (always) words of encouragement.
If I can find the time, I will exam Casey's idea about the water tank. I need to make one correction Harvey. The boat is not stored inside. It is at a secure storage facility and under a huge tarp.
Thanks again you guys.

Amanda,

The boat looks nice. Sure hope it works for you. Marty does a good job with the photos. (I need to take a class) Wish you the best on the sale.
