USS NEW YORK (LPD 21) Commissioning

From what I understand they are going to use it like they did the old LST's during the Vietnam war in the Mekong Delta. A mother ship for spec ops guys. We have spent a ton of money and a whole bunch of time getting her rigged out, de-roached etc.

BTDT but on a carrier. We used some as mother ships for minesweepers too in the gulf early in Desert Storm/etc. A whole lot easier and more cost effective than trying to build one for that purpose.

San Diego skipper relieved before vessel commissioned. Hope it is not going to be a tough luck ship!

Long story Bill. You will not see an accurate account in any press, at least I have not to date. I knew him fairly well. I'll tell you off line what happened, suffice it to say, it's Zero Tolerance in the Navy these days for nearly everything. The ship will be fine, hope someone takes me up on these tickets pretty soon...

Dusty my good friend and shipmate, I've forgotten exactly what a carrier is. I think we're both shaving with some of them these days though!
