Using 'Search' engine

When I try to find info on a specific topic I know has been discussed I usually have only limited success using the 'search' button. I hesitate to start a new thread and usually give up. What are the tricks? I don't want to waste anyone's time with a new 'reinvent the wheel' post when I know from reading this site that guaranteed it has been throughly discussed way beyond incredibly completely.

Recently I was able to solve a sticky windows problem with a successful search. However, using defaults and an inquiry 'windows sticking' I got 18 pages to sort and found the thread on page 4. Thank you Flip. Using 'sticky windows' gave different results.

My current question; has anyone had problems with the counter top material around the stove and sink. 'Snap Out Of It! is 6 years old and has stains that I could not remove. This spring I used Soft N Scrub and it somewhat worked. However, I obviously removed whatever protective surface coating was there because it now stains easily.

I am trying to stay appropriately positive for this great site and not let my frustrations show, BUT I just went to Spell Check and got 'php Spell' and on my computer it did not work!

You are not the lone ranger. Same problem using the search engine.

One way around it is to go to the Forums section and find an appropriate general topic area that might address your inquiry. This generally narrows your search to a managable 4-5 pages. I find this interesting and easy to navigate through. Sometimes brings up some good info that I was not specifically looking for.

Another way is to go to a search engine like Yahoo and type in your question or general topic. Lots of times it will hit on our c-dory site and put you in the ball park.

I am not a computer wiz so this is what has worked for me.

Lastly, if all else fails, create a new topic and ask away. No one has ever been berated or faulted for asking a question that may have already been asked. Someone may furnish the link. The people on this site are MORE than willing to help and direct you. One big happy family! :D

The counter top, to the best of my knowledge, is a laminant. I cut a piece out when putting in an access door. It is plywood with a thin laminant on top. I do not think it is particularly "robust" for scrubbing, especially with an abrasive or scouring pad. If you removed the sheen and its staining, I will bet further scrubbing will make it worse.

Probably the only recourse is to relaminate with a formica to keep the original "look". Maybe some type of epoxy paint. Ceramic tile would look sharp - pretty easy to do. Some of the Brats have actually fancied up thier table by using some tile around an inlayed map.

I am sure you thought of all of what I just said. But if it happened to you, it will or did happen to someone else. Someone will chime in!

I go to google - select advanced search - type in my question, and type in c-brats.com in the box to limit the search to a particular domain/site. :thup
