I have a 82 classic 22' was thinking of buying a newer one, was wondering how the ride was with the more v compared to the older flat bottom .
Mine is in great shape and wondering what it would be worth, it has a 1988 85 horse yamaha & a 2008 9.9 power thrust honda . Was thinking of a C-Dory 23' Venture or a 25' Cruiser what you guys think.. thanks

Dan,

Like you, I keep thinking about a newer, or in my case, bigger boat, but I always come back to one big truth. Constant Craving is paid for. It also does just about everything I want to do.

So whenever I get the itch for a Ranger 25, CD 25 or TomCat, I just start thinking about boat payments. That does it in short order, and I am back to having a really great boat (paid for).

Considering that you say the boat is in very good condition, I would think about upgrading electronics and perhaps the primary engine before I would purchase a different boat.

And Steve makes very good sense there. I don't want a bigger boat, but the Admirable would like a on-board shower, head and hot water. Me, I just want a heliport on board. Just so it won't interfere with the radar, hot tub :wink or antennas. And that bigger boat -- It comes with a bigger engine or 2, and a bigger truck. Just not going to happen! We love our boat :love :!: and are staying with that. Maybe it is time to do some adapting.

We went from the 22 to a Tom Cat and to a CD 25 for several reasons--primarly because of access to the bunk. Both boats have more bunk room and easier access. The Tom Cat has a better ride at least in average conditions. The 25 also has a better ride than the 22, but we didn't have trim tabs or a Permatrim (both of which we have on the 25). Otherwise, for me, the 22 would still be as good a boat--consider that unless you already have a 3/4 ton truck--you may have to upgrade trucks if you go to the 25 or Tom Cat.

Of the bunch, we like the Tom Cat the best.

Some who have the 23 say that they ride much better than the 22. I can only repeat what I have been told.--no personal experience.

I have a 83 classic C-Dory. I also had a ride in a 23' Venture. It did ride better than my 22' but not that much better.
For several years I looked to upgrade my 22'. After looking at many options, putting a pencil to the $$$$ numbers considering replacement cost as well as operational costs it became clear to me that my 25 yr. old 22' classic C-Dory was going to be my boat.
I then started to upgrade it with a new trailer, new GPS/sounder, anchor/chain/line, porta potty, seats, hydraulic steering etc.
Now that the economy has crashed I am thankful of my decision and like my 22' more every day. My engines are getting old but are in perfect condition yet.
