C Dory Year

C Dory Model
22 Cruiser
While visiting my daughter in San Francisco yesterday I saw an unusual (I think) C-Dory in the marina near Fort Mason. It appeared to be about 25' with wooden grab rails on the cabin exterior top and had a solid section to the rear of the side windows. This section looked about 24" long and had a very large porthole (or at least a circular window). I assume there was something similar on the starboard side. So you had what looked like normal C-Dory windows and then this giant porthole. The boat looked like it had been in place for a while as the cabin top showed a lot of evidence of seagulls, etc. Normal C-Dory logo with the name "Hunky" slightly above and forward of the logo. It had a sloping dark blue fabric cockpit cover from the cabin top back to the transom, a main and kicker but I couldn't see what brand of motor they were. Does this ring a bell with anybody??

C-Cakes -

Glen- L has had a series of plywood/epoxy Dory designs published for almost 50 years now. One of the most popular design was a series of "Hunky Dory" models - a 22 and 25 foot in particular.

Maybe this boat is partially based upon those designs.

John-

That's a good possibility.

I looked up "Glen-L Hunky Dory" on Google Images, and found a wide variety of boats, mostly because the Glen-L boats were designed to be built out of plywood and "customizeable".

To wit:

Although it was possible to go overboard on the custom touches as we see on the right! (Just had to include this, too funny to pass up!)

Joe.

Thanks for the replies. This one was an actual C-Dory. I found a 1988 22' angler named Hunky Dory listed in "Our C-Dorys" as belonging to "bajabum" and based in the SF area. I think this might be it and the porthole arrangement might be an extension of the cabin. I'll try to have my daughter take a picture of it and E-mail it to me.
