Unlucky

Wife and I went on a trip to the Little Tennessee river and the new to me 22 broke on us. Started making a horrible clicking noise that just got worse and turned into a banging. Had to limp back to the nearest marina and hitch a ride back to my truck and went home.
My mechanic friend thinks it is the lower unit. Before the trip I replaced the lower unit fluids and it has some shavings on the magnet on the drain plug. Checked the magnet again and it is covered in shavings. Took it to the shop and told me it could be 6-8 weeks before they can get a new lower unit.
Don't have a question just wanted to share my bad luck. :(

my lower unit from the 225 is at EQ marine right now for the same type problem. Started to make a sound on the coho derby. sounded like miss but was coming form the lower unit . Found fishing line behind the prop, which will cut the seal behind the prop. water and metal in the lower unit. Its in line for the last week and they have not gotten to it yet. so we wait and hunt ducks.

Be aware that there are factory lower units, rebuilt lower units and after market lower units (not for Honda). Parts run in the $600 range, but some special tools are necessary.

Looks like I may be back in business. The mechanic just called lower unit replaced. Took over two months to get one. Ready just in time for the beginning of winter. :(

Beginning of winter? I spent December through March in Huntsville in 1968-69. That's not really winter! (Actually, I was surprised at how cold it got there. But, you know, it's all relative.) Get out in the boat and enjoy the brisk air!

Congratulations on getting the motor fixed. I hope all goes well.
