Twin 50s

Hi all I am new to the forum. I have a Question for those who have twin 50s can you get on plane with just one and the other one up

Thanks

We have twin Honda 50's and no we cannot get on plane. Not even close. Might be that we are always heavy loaded but I doubt it would be possible.

I you call 13-15 MPH with a very lightly loaded boat at full throttle on step, then yes. I have twin 45s. I guess technically that is on plane, but I would not make this a common practice. Maybe with twin 60s?

I'd guess that one reason it doesn't work very well is that when you have twin 50's they are propped as "half of a pair." If you were purposely using only one engine, I believe it would have a different prop (propped as a single). (This has to do with attaining rated WOT RPM so engines aren't lugging.)

Not that a 22 with a single 50 would be a speed demon, but I bet it would plane a lot better than one with twin 50's only running on one (presuming things are propped correctly).

The advantage of twins is not to plan on one engine, but to have much more low speed maneuvering control.
