Twin 50s vs. Twin 60s for 22' C-Dory

A lot of folks with excellent experiences with the new Suzuki engines. Good choice, especially since you have a mechanic nearby.

Sounds like a great idea to let people know what i go through during the repowering process. Will be installing a new Teleflex hydraulic steering system at the same time. Had ordered it for my Honda 45s since my mechanical steering cable was in need of replacing. Just had to amend the order with a different cylinder and am waiting for my mechanic's input on whether to use the Teleflex tiebar vs. the Suzuki tiebar.

B.T.W., another topic that has been mentioned is thru-hull transducers. When I installed my Furuno fishfinder I installed a 1000W thru-hull transducer. As far as I know, very few C-Dory owners have done so out of reluctance to drill a hole through the bottom of the hull and the complexity of the installation, but the flat bottom of the C-Dory in the centerline near the transom is actually ideal for a thru-hull transducer. It turned out great and at some point I will post some Pics and explain the install process.

bill do you ever loose the bottom when running at high speeds with that thru hull. I loose the bottom all the time when on plane. If its deeper them 80 ft and I am on plane I loose the bottom Half the time. under 80 ft and its not a problem. Anyone else having these issue's?

Tom , sorry for ther delay on the question on the Cruiseship with the Honda 90 . I wish I could tell you first hand what the motor is like , but I have been away alot . I am home now and will load it up and try it maybe this weekend . I do know that my service guys got 24 Knots GPS with light load and 2 people aboard when they tested it ! I am anticipating about 20 Kts when all the goodies are on board and bottom is painted . Probably cruise at 15 Kts . Ill post more pics also when I can get her in the water for my first overnight adventure !

starcrafttom,
just read your post regarding loosing the bottom when on plane.
could your problem be, as a result of air bubbles, caused by mounting the transducer behind a hull srake, or to close to the keel?
i have read installation instructions regarding transducers and they have stated the above as a potential problem.
best regards

Capt Bill,

I lose the bottom with my Lowrance mainly in water over 300 feet when I am moving greater than 15 mph. It may be disturbance caused by water flow but I suspect some other issue since the shallower the water the faster I can go without losing the bottom.

With my previous boat, a 22' Hewescraft, I had the same problem with my Lowrance unit except that I lost the bottom over about 10 mph, at any depth.

That was one of the major reasons I insisted on an Airmar in-hull transducer on the Lori Ann. Thus far, it has worked perfectly at all speeds and depths.

Bill,

Hi/lo frequency didn't matter. It loses the bottom at speed. Thru hull may solve the problem plus getting it further away from the motor.
