TSUNAMI - WARNING

I learned at an early age, when any of of my friends said, "Watch this!" it was prudent to take a step back. Many of the best things in the life of a small boy involve some element of danger. We learn, or not . . .

It's a different world when you grow up. Like it or not, much of the time as Marty says, "We're all in the same boat." And even when we're in our own boats, growing up means watching our wakes.

Now, waiting for a Tsunami with a surf board is stupid on many levels, as are some of the things some mountain climbers do, but really, are these the kinds of things we ought to get our collective knickers in a collective twist over? I don't want to see the stupid surfer, much less some brave rescuer die, and I don't really want to see my tax dollars going to make up for someone's irresponsible behavior. But these are such piddling issues by comparison to others. I'd much rather try to rescue a few surfers, climbers, aviators and assorted other rugged (but stupid) individualists, than pay through taxes and insurance premiums to take care of and clean up after people who eat stupidly, smoke stupidly, drink stupidly, or talk stupidly on their cellphones while driving. There are those with real talent who do all these things at once.

(And the whole gene pool argument only works if stupid behavior catches up with people before they reproduce.)

Bill, there are only three kinds of boys. 1) Those who learn by reading about the topic. 2) Those who learn by observing others. 3) Lastly, those who have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...

Spring is not close enough.
I am going out today in the boat anyway...
No waves forecasted for the Cumberland River and the below looks like what we have had for the last month...other than about 15 degrees warmer...and plenty warm enough to get the boat in the water!

9:30 am tax appointment
10:30 am tow motor appointment at the marina!

Day: Snow Showers. High 40F. Winds N at 11 mph. Air Quality: Good, UV Index: 3 40% Night: Cloudy. Low 30F. Winds NW at 8 mph.

Grab a friend and go laugh a bit today.

Byrdman

No, actually it looks more like Marty!

Marty - did you pose for this cartoonist?

Man...a fence is one thing, but this poor guy probably never knew what hit him.

". . . burn marks indicated the way the electricity traveled through [his] body."

I truly hope he didn't know what hit him.

Sometimes we get lucky at a young age and learn an important lesson without getting killed. When I was about 6, my mom was changing the burned out light bulb in a lamp. As she left the room to get a new bulb, she specifically admonished me not to touch the lamp. Well, I'd heard that kind of thing before. For instance, after a similar warning it had turned out that if you were careful, you could slowly move your hand closer and closer to the stove top, feeling the heat increase, but you could stop before you got burned. So I thought I'd slowly put my finger down the empty socket and see how close I could get to this electricity business before . . .

And then about 15 years later I watched a classmate at the Redstone Arsenal try basically the same kind of thing with his screwdriver on a capacitor . . .

I'm always careful where I pee.

And Byrdman, it may not be Spring where you are, but I got driven out of my garden by mosquitoes yesterday evening. What's with that? I guess it's screw the vegetables, I'm going out in the boat to try out my new autopilot.

The only reason that I don't have much hair on my head is because I've returned to a military style haircut. HOWEVER, the rest of the cartoon does ring true for me and I seldom sleep a full night..so I guess it could "look" like me.....LOL....

(I just want it to be noted however, that Carol does look MUCH YOUNGER! :thup )

Totally agee! Carol is MUCH younger looking and you have a much fuller hairline.

Wow....now that is a traffic cone. What a wonderful fishing opportunity if sunk in the right spot.... may want to cut some holes in it as to allow fish to pass thru it. Awesome.

Yes,... a great afternoon on the water after working on IRS stuff. Crazy, but, had the opportunity to boat all afternoon with the guy who runs the Boathouse storage and the "one" that I trust moving ALOYSIUS about on the tow motor. We had many, many laughs about things that had taken place around folks at the Boathouse when getting into/out of and/or returning their boats to the lift area.

This laughter brought us back to some of my late Father's favorite terms of love he tossed my way as a child...that, to much surprise, made it to adult living.

1- If your going to be stupid son, you gotta be tuff.
2- Stupid hurts son, learn from that.
These terms were heard as I was getting up off the ground while taking advantage of my freedom of speech...unfortunately, within his reach.

3- Yes son, I will be glad to help you up after I stop laughing so hard at you I can not see you thru the tears. This, heard around the water ski and fishing trips.

Oh how I miss you Pops. Thanks for the opportunities and memories.
One of your adult sons who all made it some how.
