Triton Boats

I was down at Sportcraft this morning, and they have two new Triton built boats in stock. A 22 Cruiser and a 23 Venture. I must say that I am impressed with the boats! They look very well made.

One thing I did not understand on the 22, was not having access to the compartment under the port sliding seat. That would be easy enough to cure, but I would have thought the factory would take care of that. There is access under the vee berth, so it isn't like a lot of space is lost. That was really the only whine of any significance that I could come up with. Trivial whines are the overhead shelf doesn't look as nice as the wood version, wiring is not screw clamped (uses tie wraps and glued on mount points), port inside grab bar is not full length.

All in all, I think Triton has nicely improved the boat. Better table (on pedestal) mount, better sliding seat, better curtain into vee berth, nice doors into seat compartments, half wall between area under sink and captain's chair to allow storage of longer items. The anchor well is closed off from the vee berth to keep water out. Nice large cleats. New captains chair.

Most of those improvements were on the 2009 Fluid built boats we had in stock.

I do like Triton's hatches under the V-Berth area, they are larger and flush mounted. There V-Berth curtain on a track is nice as one doesn't ahve to stow the snap in curtain when not in use and opens up the V-berth a bit more.

Kerri On is the first Triton 2011 I believe from last year and has all these features. The area under the slider was opened up with a 6 inch Beckson port. One jigsaw opening from the front and access was available. I keep paper towel, toilet tissue, stove gas, garbage bags etc in here. The boat has been exceptional, trouble free and comfortable. Triton does great work. George

WOW, wonder if the seat cushion just lifts up and off, to access that whole compartment. Lots of space there and easy access that way.

Hi Harvey the sliding bin is accessed by taking the cushion off. The space in question is the big space under the dinette and slider seat box. It has a locker on the back part but under the slider box itself is a sealed space that yields a lot of storage. It's about 2 1/2 feet by 1 1/2 feet and 8 inches high. lots of room that is unavailable unless the sliding rails are repositioned to allow a top loading hatch. It was easier to go thru the front. George,

Thanks. I have access to that space from behind , (aft of) the sliding seat, under the table, or forward of the seat on the sole. Both places have large access cut-outs. Maybe with the table now supported by a post, the access point, (where my hatch is) could not be used for access because it is supporting the table. These are the places I keep a spare anchor, tool bag, emergency flares, anchor trip line and floats, extension cords, and extra pop cans in the summer.

Hope the walk about is still going strong. (Liked the matress tip.)

Hi Harvey I believe that with the post supporting the table the area under the floor wants that bulkhead for strength. Easy $10 fix to get access from the front side and no structural changes.

In 2004, the factory had not implemented the "Barber Chair" into their production boats yet. So when I ordered my 22' from Les he fabricated up the forward facing sliding port seat up for me. He designed it so the cushion could be removed thereby giving abundant storage space. In that space I keep a very large first aid kit, a spare prop, tool kit etc.

For history sake for those who are unfamiliar with the port forward facing sliding seat, here it is......

Mike Barber, (AKA Tyboo) first fabbed up a forward facing sliding seat in his (at that time) 22' C-Dory Cruiser. (Hence the name "Barber" chair).
Not long after David McKibben (Anna Leigh) fabbed up a similar set-up for his and Pat Anderson's (at that time) 22' C-Dory Cruisers. Then, Bill (DaNag) ordered a 22' through Les at EQ Marine and shortly after I likewise ordered a 22' through Les. Les then fabbed up the "Barber" chair for our two vessels. (DaNag and Sea Shift) were housed together at EQ Marine at the same time while Les was outfitting them and making the modifications.
Sometime soon after the factory began offering the feature but designed differently than the above custom made fabrications.

In case you haven't figured it out yet, Mike and Bill are the two illustrious gentlemen that make this site possible. So again, because of C-Brat input (Mike Barber in this case), the C-Dory 22' was vastly improved.

(I do have storage space under the raised floor beneath the table as well).

Do you have pictures of the "Barber Chair" you could show us?

H

Well, it's nice to see someone discussing the new C-Dorys. They are very nice boats and we need to point out that the new ones are very good.

Hambone, I do not, however Tyboo and DaNag do. In order to find those photos click on Photos in the header, then click on CB Tech Library then click on Cabin,Interior. Go to page 2 right column 3rd pix down and page 2 left column 4th pix down and you'll see the pix of DaNags, which is the same as mine.
Tyboo posted numerous pix of his and are the last 10 pix on page 4 with 6 more pix on page 5.
Hope this is a help.

Mike Barber sounds like a pretty decent guy....anyone actually met him??

Absolutely! He's practically a neighbor of yours, lives just down the river from you. (I'm thinking that you've met him too).

Hey Catman, so great to "hear" from you! Welcome back! We miss you. I trust that your sweet 16 Bambina is still in that "Always Pristine Condition".
