Trip to Port Isabel Texas

As I mentioned briefly on another thread - I went down to Port Isabel for a few days to visit the inlaws. Like many of my recent holiday trips, I managed to get violently ill for a couple of days during the trip - don't think it's the in-laws but there is a correlation.... Anyway, aside from that, it was a good trip. Had some decent Mexican food (which is hard to come by in Seattle) and had a nice time with the in-laws. Yesterday (Tues Dec. 19th), I took my father-in-law out on a charter with "Capt. Murphy". We had a good time a limited out in a reasonable time.

Others on the boat weren't so lucky (or skilled?? ) so we were out until about 4PM. The capt. was a knowledgeable, hard working fella who moved the boat to about 6 different wrecks looking for fish. Those who knew how to fish well limited out (about 1/2 the boat), the others struggled a little. Apparently many days are much easier and everyone limits. Regardless, fresh red snapped breaded a fried for dinner last night was pretty tasty. Here's a photo of dad-in-law ("Pops") with both our limits in his hands.

Hi Roger,
Next time you're down, we'll get you out on Wild Blue and show you places that Murphy's Law doesn't go. For Mexican food, did you make it to Mexiquito or Manuel's (our two favorites :thup ).

Sorry we missed you. How was the weather? :wink Looks like it was good shorts weather. We did see something on the internet about some northern visitor who won the "whitest legs" contest. 8)

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Jim, for Mexican food - went down the tropical trail about 10 miles from Port Isabel - I think it was in Los Fresnos - El Potrero Mexican Restaurant. It was pretty decent, a mom and pop kind of place near a gas station.

I'll look forward to that boat ride - maybe next year.

Roger
