Trim tanks

Looks like the tanks are bolted on at least from the pictures. I would say the comments of other owners familiar with the model are interesting at least, and valuable in relation to concerns of safety or handling or even repair-ability/resale. Ugly or not ugly is subjective and we can all choose to make our boats as hideous as we want (mine got a little more odd over the weekend). It would be nice to hear why these were added and why the huge motor? These boats sure are a blank slate for some and I find that makes me even more proud to be an owner. Some of my ideas thankfully never escape my head. When D nag talked about carrying a motorcycle on his 22, I was immediately interested in helping to make that work.

I'm sorry for the caddy comments I made. Upon further examination I think I might to add some trim tanks to our boat and change our boats name to Kim.

In my aerospace days, we had a saying that was correct 95% if the time.

Design well, Test the design, test it as it will be used and then use only as tested. (I've chosen to Leave that up to the C-Dory factory). No structural changes for me.

Ugly is truly in the eyes of the beholder.

I'm not changing my mind. I think it is ugly. When a person puts their boat for sale out in the public domain, it will attract discussion and personal opinions. This may in fact help the owner if he ever reads these posts. If his boat does not sell and/or attracts little interest, he may have some answers to his questions and be able to adjust accordingly. If the boat sells in a reasonable amount of time and for a good dollar in its present set up, then he got it right. Good for him/her.

Trim tanks are a new one for me! Looking at the photos the bottom of the tanks do look like they are in-line with the bottom of the transom. It's really hard to know how it handles, its possible it handles even better with the increased length and getting the trim tabs further back.

Im wondering if the tanks add buoyancy to overcome the added weight of that big 130, or if at least that was the intent.

Im not gonna bash someones idea, I think its unique and may have a purpose especially in that part of the country. Id worry about how its attached and what kind of impact that could have had on the transom stress or water intrusion, but Im not buying, and if I was I'd thouroughly check it out first.

Maybe after I finish another project on the bow.

Actually that is an interesting question--because the 130 is very similar to the 115 Honda of that era--so it may not be as overpowering as it might seem…The 115 and 130 are on the same block and weight is 496 lbs. The current 90 Honda is 359 lbs and the current 115 is 478 lbs (different blocks)
