Trent Severn Canal

Boris,

Those look interesting,(and the railway down positively scary), but where are they? In Canada I see but can you narrow it down a little from there? :)

A quote from Around the Great Lakes :

“The Trent-Severn canal and lock system runs from Bellville in the Bay of Quinte (west of Kingston, ON) and runs through canals, rivers and many lakes to Georgian Bay (Lake Huron) north of Midland”

We went to the Great Lakes in 2007, and Journey On’s log of that part is Trent Severn canal

Just remember they put thousands of boats through the locks every year, and haven't lost one yet. The second hydraulic lock closed just after we went up due to a leaking cylinder, which they fixed that night. The marine railway worked without a hitch. Those Canadians do it right

El and Bill,

Thanks for direction us to your story. It was great, and reminded us of our trip. That Canadian Shield is something; we saw them blasting a freeway through it, and the rock was 100' deep for this cut.

Just for info, we put in at Orillia, next to Lake Couchiching. Being from So Cal, I can't pronounce either. However the town docks are great and it's sort of in the middle, so it's easy to come back and get the truck. Parking was free, and we left it there for ~3weeks.
