Trailer wench / Guide kits

I was wondering what everyone considers to be the necessary weight rating for a trailer wench to handle 22 cruiser on a regular basis for the next 20 years. I am shopping around and would appreciate any recommendations.

I also have been looking for a good bunk board guide kit that will hold up well. My EZ loader trailer currently has no guides and it is difficult keeping my boat centered. Has anyone done this project recently? Thank you
 
I'm not sure what make of trailer you're considering or have, but EZ Loader has the required hardware to install guide-ons/sideboards. Oh, and go high on the GVW capacity of the trailer.

Here's a pic of Journey On and the trailer. those guides work well, keep the boat off the fenders when I winch it in. You can see the support clearly, the carpet covered board is over the fender.

Get one of the two speed winches. I use one of the Fulton 2600 lb winches. There is also a 3600 lb winch..but that is probably more than necessary for the 22.

There have been several threads of the bunk guides. I have had boards on most of my trailers, plus the "guide on" of PVC pipe over the galvanized tubing which attaches to the trailer.

I have the stock 2100lb winch single speed and it's right for most ramps. I'll be replacing it this season with a two speed. There have been a couple steep ramps when we were a challenged to get the boat all the way ahead. Mid tide at Salmon Pt BC the bow points at the sky.

I had a somewhat different answer all prepped regarding the right wench! :wink:

Capt. Meares.....

On my photo album you will find a picture of my sideboards on my 22' C-Dory on picture no. 18.
On picture no's 37 & 54 is a shot of the boards on my 26' C-Dory.
In my experience I found that to keep the board post vertical and snug on the hull when the boat is on the trailer is very helpful. I designed both sets and had them fabricated by a welding shop. Not cheap but they work well.

I would go with a 2 speed, nylon strap winch. Usually get by OK on the rapid, but there are times.... that slow speed on a steep ramp really works best.
