trailer brake experience

I have been working on my trailer disc brakes lately the salt ate them up so bad that I had to buy 4 new calipers. The calipers arrived today got one done went to remove the other wheel and snapped off all but one of the studs. The other side is going to snap also which is fine I am going to replace them all. The problem is finding the studs.

So if your calipers or pads need replacing take my advice and buy the new rotor, hub, with the bearings pre packed, and new caliper and pads. 137.00 each, the calipers alone ran 75.00 each. So for 200 dollars more you save alot of time and frustration.

Steve,

What kind of trailer are you replacing brakes on? Pacific, EZ Off, TrailRite,......? Or would that make any difference? And can you trust that the bearings are well packed?

try adding a product called never seize (not sure of name brand) It comes in aluminum based (silver in color) or copper based (copper color). Coat your wheel studs like a democrat (liberally) with this product. It will make it eaier to remove them next time. I also coat brake bleeders and the pins the calipers float on with marine grease along with the brake bleeder and connections of brake lines to the calipers. I even coat the steel the steel brake lines themselves with marine grease to retard the on set of corrosion. It's like digging up around a well head. You don't throw the rocks back into the hole. Make easy for the next time. :) U will thank yourself.

We had a problem last yr with our tie down disc brakes .One of our disc would not release so we ordered one and had it replaced and had the system flushed out . I think I will look into the new tie down brakes and maybe order a set of 4 ? I will be going to the Miami show to check out trailer supplies and elec .

We have been keeping our boat in the water we pull it out about 3 times a yr to clean and touch up the bottom paint . We are hoping to do more c-brat gatherings NC loop and Chesapeake .

Kodiak disc brakes are reported to be much better than others such as Tie Down that are on the market. They are more expensive but that beats taking a chance sitting along side the road. It's one thing if you don't stray to far from the back porch but it's a whole nother thing if you become a real road warrior.

Well the brakes are done. If I were to do it over it would be just buy the whole package. So now we are getting ready for the river cruise.

See you there
